Waldman Plastic Surgery and Dermatology is seeking a full-time Medical Assistant for our busy Plastic Surgery and Dermatology practice in Nashua, NH. Our group offers medical, surgical, and cosmetic services to patients from NH, VT, MA, ME, and more. Candidates should possess excellent customer service and communication skills, ability to multitask, and strong organizational skills.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting directly to the Clinical Manager, the major duties and responsibilities of the Medical Assistant are not limited to the following clinical and administrative duties:
Clinical Duties:
- SCRIBE for all dermatology visits and select plastic surgery visits
- Document accurately to reflect patient’s current health status as well the visit discussion of diagnosis
- Assist providers in exam rooms as needed in addition to scribing and/or chaperoning
- Escort patients to/from exam rooms, obtain/clarify/update medical history, obtain vital signs as needed, preparing patients for examination, and setting up materials as needed by providers
- Triage and process clinical messages from patients and front office staff to providers as needed
- Communicate effectively and efficiently with patients, providers, and front office staff
- Provide compassionate patient support, care, attention, and assistance during office visits and other correspondence methods
- Explain treatments and/or procedures to patients prior to obtaining written or verbal consent
- Collect and prepare laboratory specimens such as biopsies, excisions, and cultures
- Educate patients about medications, pre/post care regimens, diagnoses, etc.
- Transmit prescriptions and refills as directed by providers
- Remove sutures, change dressings, or other procedures as directed by providers
- Perform proper dosing and/or mixing of medications
- Maintain electronic specimen log including scanning results, making pathology results calls, and following up on treatment to ensure compliance
- Keep gowns, supplies, handouts, etc. stocked in rooms
- Sterilize and package instruments
- Complete prescription enrollment forms, prior-authorizations, and appeals as needed
Administrative Duties:
- Use of computer applications
- Compose letters to patients and referring providers/PCPs as needed
- Handle correspondence via phone, fax, and email
Required Experience:
- Proficiency in administrative tasks
- Basic understanding of clinical tasks
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Familiarity with digital record systems
Qualifications:
- Positive attitude and professional demeanor. Previous Plastic Surgery and/or Dermatology experience highly preferred.
Medical assistants must have knowledge of:
- Healthcare field and medical specialty
- Medical terminology
- Grammar, spelling, and punctuation
- Knowledge of EHRs
