Position Summary
The Medical Assistant performs duties related to assisting the physician in the overall care of the patient. These duties include but are not limited to rooming patients, taking histories, assisting with procedures, drawing blood, ordering supplies, and performing other clerical duties as times allows. We are looking for a Medical Assistant who also has medical reception skills. This is a smaller office and we need an individual who can multi-task and wear multiple hats.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Administrative
•Answering all incoming calls and assist patients or route to appropriate party.
•Checking online databases, following up with doctor’s offices and insurance companies to ensure patient charts are up to date.
•Completing all doctor’s notes and e-mails in a timely manner, utilizing proper grammar and spelling.
•Managing the doctor’s schedule and communicating with staff and patients accordingly.
•Updating all paper and electronic charts as needed.
•Ensuring all areas of the office are clean and presentable, including the exam rooms, bathrooms and beverage area.
•Ordering office and beverage supplies as needed.
•Responds to phone calls for test results, medication refills, postop visits, scheduling appointments, etc.
•Put patients in room, follows the initial intake process, and is available for instructions from the physician regarding the patient.
•Schedules follow up appointments for nursing treatments.
Clinical
•Takes vitals, BP, Temperature and Weight.
•Checks that lab results, op reports, etc. are in chart.
•Draws blood for labs as ordered by physician and process urinalysis.
•Sends specimens to the laboratory with necessary, accurate paperwork.
•Performs and/or schedules Phlebotomy as required.
•Processes paper labs and imaging for physician review.
•Ensures all equipment is in working order.
•Keep appropriate logs regarding medications noting expiration dates.
•Cleans, wraps and re-sterilizes equipment.
Financial
•Orders medical supplies.
Educational Requirements
•Required: One year certificate from college or technical school; or _three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience
•10+ years experience required
Licenses and Certifications
•Required: Medical Assistant School Certification.
•Required: Current CPR card.
Additional Qualifications
•Knowledgeable in computer applications including practice management, electronic health record, Microsoft Office, etc.
•Ability to articulate general knowledge of urological procedures. Knowledgeable in the use computers, faxing, scanning, copy machines and calculators.
•Knowledge of medical terminology and transcripts, based on previous industry experience is highly desirable
This position will require travel between the Gurnee and Libertyville locations.
