Emergency Hire - Temporary position lasting at most 90 days with an option of being extended to 180 days.


Position Summary

Under the direction of the Director of Multimedia and Digital Communications and the Social Media Strategic Lead, the Media Production Specialist II develops multimedia and social media assets to promote Sacramento State for both external and internal audiences. The Visual Communications Specialist works to maximize multimedia quality, audience engagement, and messaging that conveys the University's mission and value to the campus and the region.

In addition, the Visual Communications Specialist captures, edits, and shares still images and video on social media channels, through e-newsletters and magazines, on web pages/websites, in print publications, and directly for campus partners and the California State University system. The Visual Communications Specialist will also support the News and Communications team with visual asset consulting and production of photo and video assets for news stories.

FLSA: Non-Exempt

CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,761.00 - $6,803.00 per month 

Hiring Range/Rate: $3,761.00 per month 

Salary Grade/Range: 2

Time Base: 1.0

Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00a.m. - 5:00p.m.

The Office of University Communications works to raise awareness and tell the Sac State story on campus, in the region, and beyond. In
support of the University's strategic priorities, we partner with campus colleagues to showcase academic success, inclusive excellence, and robust community engagement via a wide range of communication platforms. We oversee news and media relations, crisis communications, social media and multimedia, marketing and branding, and strategic publications.

Minimum Qualifications 

Entry to the first level within this classification requires a basic knowledge of and skill in graphics, still or motion photography, or television production. This knowledge and skills normally is obtained through a bachelor's degree in a related field and at least six month of experience in still and motion picture photography, including a thorough knowledge of video production techniques.

Required Qualifications 

1. Demonstrated ability to produce still photos and videos using professional production equipment (e.g., digital single-lens reflex cameras, external microphones, lighting equipment);

2. Demonstrated ability to edit photos and video using editing programs such as Adobe Photoshop and Premiere, Da Vinci or Final Cut.

3. Professional-level experience in developing content and executing strategies for the use of, social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), LinkedIn, Flickr, YouTube, and Vimeo.

4. Proven organizational and project management skills, including the ability to execute multimedia and social media projects and campaigns through all stages of production while meeting goals and deadlines.

5. Exceptional interpersonal, communication, listening, and interpretive skills with the ability to interact with others in a consistently professional and mission-driven manner.

6. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.

7. Experience at an institution of higher education.

8. Professional-level expertise in communications, particularly in the use of social media to promote organizational strategies and goals.
