The Maintenance Planner/Scheduler is responsible for managing the incoming maintenance work for planning of safe and proper work execution. They are to develop detailed work plans for distribution to the work crew for safe and effective work execution. They are expected to work closely with the site engineering staff for project planning and to ensure the correct specified parts are identified/procured for use on the planned jobs. They are to work closely with the site Operations Maintenance Coordinators to prioritize the work planning and thoroughly understand the requested work scope to be planned. Output from the planner is clear and technically correct/understandable work plans using standardized formats.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITES
- Planning jobs for mechanical personnel in a Chemical Plant. This includes primarily planning for chemical plant pipe repairs/fabrications and installations, as well as other mechanical work associated with a chemical plant.
- Basic expectations of the planner are to develop job plan work scopes with details to safely and efficiently execute 'planned work'.
- Communications with workforce, supervisors, plant engineers, maintenance coordinators, operators, suppliers, and storeroom personnel are required to meet expectations of a successful job plan. This includes job walkdowns with job 'requestors' to understand expected outcome and develop an executable work plan with details of required personnel/durations; preparation activities required and necessary tooling and parts.
- Daily communications with operations maintenance coordinators, work scheduler, supervisors, storeroom personnel, and outside vendors to ensure all aspects of the job planning are well in place prior to job scheduling.
- Technical writing skills are required to develop job plan documents which are clear and well understood. Computer skills to use plant CMMS system (SAP) and Microsoft tools (Excel, Word, etc.) for development of the job plan documents are required.
- Support the overall facility safety through excellence in project management, maintenance planning and problem identification. Identifies and ensures issues are addressed ASAP via maintenance work order system. Review safety work orders and ensure appropriate priority for their work assignment and completion.
- Lead the organization for the effective execution of all maintenance work control processes to ensure plant uptime through support of preventative/reactive maintenance, project management, systems control and general engineering. Responsible for the efficient and effective use of planning and scheduling all resources to conduct maintenance activities which result in minimum downtime and maximum productivity. Ensure adherence to Personal Safety, OSHA, Quality and Environmental Policies and Practices.
- Lead the PM scheduling effort and build database of critical and recommended PMs for entire plant operations and equipment. Support the development of detailed PMs for operations and track completion compliance. Provide max and min stock levels for parts by equipment type to ensure availability and economy. Utilize outside resources to adequately store parts based on cost reductions at time of purchase. Work with vendors to organize and verify on-site availability of parts needed to complete work on specific projects. Create a locator system for use on all shifts.
- Lead through demonstrated professional examples, creating an environment that supports self-directed work teams and productive employee relations while maintaining compliance with the current Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- Prior work experience of mechanical abilities to understand what requirements are needed from a craftsman perspective of job plan document details. Ability to navigate computer system databases for drawing searches, equipment and process specifications. Ability to read and understand P&ID (Process and Instrument Diagrams) is a plus for review of pipeline drawings/specifications.
