Job Description
Duration: 6+ Months Contract with high possibility of extension up to 24 months.
Location: MI (Jackson, Lansing, Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids, etc. – western side of state)
Work Arrangement: Hybrid approach – full-time remote with field engineering onsite requirements during certain phases of projects (engineering kickoff, project meetings, and field work during construction). Traveling in the field – once every 2 weeks.
Job Description:
- Gas Compression Project Engineering supports modifications to existing facilities and new construction projects at our natural gas compressor stations.
- Mechanical Project Engineers work in a team setting in the role of lead and/or support engineer for engineering projects.
- Project Engineering works closely with project managers, engineers of other disciplines, system engineers, environmental engineers, station operations and maintenance personnel, outage managers, construction managers, engineering firms, contracted labor, and vendor representatives to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and on budget.
- Employees in this department provide leadership, sound engineering judgement, organizational skills and clear communication to coordinate successful completion of projects.
Department:
This position is within a team that supports capital projects focusing on compressor stations on the western side of Michigan. The team consists of 3 engineers, with Coleman managing the team.
Current Projects:
- Overrise compression station: Currently in the process of replacing all natural gas coolers on the discharge side of compressor stations. Updating equipment with new piping being installed for gas coolers, including excavation. This is a $40M+ project.
- Smaller valve replacement projects: Aimed at achieving compliance with emissions to meet EPA requirements (project ongoing through 2026).
Responsibilities:
- Develop technical specifications for engineering services.
- Act as the lead for projects within the team.
- Manage specifications for construction and engineering equipment.
- Evaluate and support contracts.
- Provide field engineering support during the execution phase and maintain the lifecycle of projects.
Skills Required:
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a relevant field.
- Experience in project engineering.
- Knowledge of natural gas operations.
- Experience in power generation/petrochemical industries is relatable.
- Desirable skills include knowledge of AutoCAD/MicroStation (for technical review; no designing necessary for this role).
