The Mechanical Engineer is a key, customer-facing role within the Acutronic Actuation Business Unit. The engineer in this role will have broad responsibility and ownership of New Product Introduction (NPI) projects from proposal through qualification testing and production support. The successful individual in this role will be a self-starter requiring little supervision. For 50 years, Acutronic’s Simulation & Test Division has been the global market leader in the development, design, and manufacture of Inertial Guidance Test Systems and Hardware-In-The-Loop motion simulators. These high-precision motion simulators are used in the aerospace, defense, automotive, and consumer electronics industries to test and calibrate inertial sensors (e.g. gyroscopes and accelerometers that measure movement), Inertial Navigation Systems, Electronic Stability Control systems, and the in-flight engagement scenarios of missiles.
Acutronic’s Aerospace Components Division develops and manufactures specialty components for use on unmanned aerial vehicles and missile systems. These products are used on next-generation aerospace programs and include a range of micro-turbine engines, electric power systems, actuators, and turbo-generator propulsion systems. The Division offers standard products and excels at designing highly customized solutions for demanding mission requirements.

Mechanical Engineer
Your roles/responsibilities will include:
- Perform detailed mechanical design of EM actuators including:
- Gearing and bearing design and analysis
- Structural analysis
- Analysis and specification of ancillary EM components (clutches, brakes, position sensors, etc.)
- Tolerance stack-up of precision assemblies
- Support proposal efforts in a fast-paced aerospace environment
- Assess customer system level requirements
- Develop derived requirements
- Produce requirements compliance matrix
- Generate engineering models of proposed designs with substantiating analysis balancing rigor and speed
- Contribute to estimating recurring and non-recurring costs
- Contribute to development schedule
- Develop weight and cost estimates
- Creation and ownership of CAD models
- Conduct finite element analysis (FEA) (structural and thermal)
- Create detailed component and assembly drawings
- Perform basic project management tasks as required
- Generate customer deliverable test procedures and reports (ATP, QTP, QTR, etc.) as well as other data items (structural analysis, reliability predictions) in support of development
Your qualifications/skills should include:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited college or university required
- Master’s degree in engineering preferred
- At least five years of engineering experience required, ten preferred
Position type / physical demand:
- Work is generally performed in an office environment
- 10-15% domestic travel required to support customer / supplier
