Job description

Your Role

As an Entry level Mechanical Engineer joining our tight knit team of engineers, you'll be working on the design and launch of our next generation products. This is an opportunity to learn automotive-level engineering from a cadre of accomplished design, test, and manufacturing engineers, fabricators, field technicians, and product managers. At Aperia, you will participate in activities across the product development spectrum, from early-stage research and design to CAD modeling and prototyping, through the various stages of lab and field validation stages and into production. You can also count on getting into the field and talking to customers to understand how your design decisions are meeting their needs and traveling to vendors to check on their manufacturing processes and output.

Your Responsibilities

This role will allow you to wear many hats depending on the needs of the company. As an Entry Level Mechanical Engineer, Aperia will support you with appropriate guidance and support as needed to help you to succeed. At any given time, you can expect to be tasked with the following responsibilities (though not all at once)

  • Design and build mechanical assemblies for next-gen products, this includes prototyping, performing simulations and hands-on field work.
  • Develop and execute validation tests, analyze data to optimize designs and advise on next steps.
  • Perform field visits and audit performance of products in the field to ensure product success.
  • Support current products, including investigating product issues, failures and employing root cause analysis where needed.
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams to gather feedback and data from customers that is crucial to product upgrades and developments.
  • Take ownership of assigned projects, managing timelines, budget, and resources effectively to deliver projects on time and within budget constraints.
  • Support vendor qualification through testing of products from new vendors.
  • Produce and review engineering drawings, send to vendors, work with them to quote new designs and coordinate ordering samples.
  • Build and release Engineering Change Orders in Arena PLM and follow Aperia best practices surrounding quality requirements.

Qualifications

  • Required:
    • Bachelor's degree Mechanical Engineering, with 1-2 years' experience in product development (ideally automotive or other high volume, high reliability industry)
    • Mechanical aptitude and fluency in mechanical systems
    • Fluency in a CAD program like SolidWorks, or similar
    • Fluency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and it's Google derivatives (Docs,Sheets, Slides)
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Self-motivated, intensely curious, with the ability to teach yourself new skills
    • Desire to work in a collaborative, team focused environment that encourages independent thinking and continuous improvement
  • Bonus Points:
    • LabVIEW, MATLAB, C++ (or similar microcontroller programming language)
    • Experience with GD&T
    • Rapid prototyping methodologies like 3D printing, laser cutting, machining
    • Mechatronics, robotics, electronics know-how
    • Data analysis, simulations, Python or SQL experience
    • Student SAE Formula, Baja, etc, type project experience
    • Reliability engineering

Pay Range: $95,000 - $110,000
