Desired Job Experience
Minimum of 5 years of structural code compliant facilities design experience for new construction and building renovation construction projects.
Desired Degree
Accreditation Board for Engineers and Technology (ABET) accredited degree in a Mechanical Engineering program from a college or university earning a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Previous Employment Exposure
FEMA, US Army, NAVFAC, DOD, DOE, National Guard Installations a plus.
Education and/or Experience
- Must have current and proven HVAC design experience—this is most important to NAVFAC.
- Ability to prepare for meetings to address issues at various phases of design.
- Ability to brief managers on various design phases.
- Mechanical Engineering with 10+ years in Fire Protection Systems, Firestop Inspections, HVAC & Ductwork, Instrumentation Controls, Testing and Balancing, Air Barrier, Testing Reports, Commissioning Certification, Chiller and Makeup Air Units, Boilers, Pumps, and various other MEP systems.
- The candidate did not demonstrate, "a minimum of 5 years of professional fire protection engineering code compliant facilities design experience for new construction, including renovation design experience, is required."
- Demonstrate experience including the application of requirements embedded in the Life Safety Code, International Building Code, UFCs, and NFPA Codes and Standards.
- Design or supervise the design of wet, dry, deluge, and pre-action automatic sprinkler systems, fire pumps, special hazards fire suppression systems, and alarm systems for residential, commercial, institutional, and industrial facilities. Need much more than fire alarm related design experience.
- Perform analysis of fire protection systems and special hazards.
- Manage and review project design specifications and plans and oversee the installation and commissioning of new fire protection and fire suppression systems.
- Knowledge of 5 type of construction and space usage.
- Development of standards and policies and procedures for fire and life safety, fire protection system inspections, and emergency response planning.
- Commissioning and Oversight of Instrumentation Controls, Wiring Terminations, Fire Alarm Notification, Security System Alarm, Fire Sprinkler Systems, DALT Reporting, TAB Reporting, CX Reporting, Electrical Codes, and Project Closeout
- Vendor familiarity with controls and vendors such as Siemens, Johnson Controls, Pritchett, Distech, Honeywell, Trane, Advantor, etc.
- CLIENT Familiarity with USACE Resident Management System (RMS) software database and USACE EM 385-1-1 requirements is a plus.
- Computer/IT skills
- Use of EE design software
- Ability to manage/handle multiple projects.
General Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Must be able to do a site reconnaissance and be able to navigate safely on a construction site.
- Can’t have record: DUI, fellows, child record, etc. Pass a Govt Security Background Check.
- Good oral and written skills
- Must have good professional employment references.
- As reference if candidate can manage multiple projects, has good computer skills, and can complete training and other administrative requirements.
- Has transportation to and from work (valid driver’s license, valid vehicle registration, valid vehicle insurance)
- Can work 8 hrs. a day, 5 days a week, 40 hours per week.
