Position Overview: As part of the engineering team, this individual will work directly with ownership and senior management, while being the primary point person on technical concerns with customers, internal manufacturing, and subcontracting resources. He or she is expected to keep pace with the latest technologies and materials available in the field of high reliability motors and drivers and contribute significantly to the overall strategic direction and engineering competency of the company. Essential Job Functions:
- Professionally manage and track multiple projects simultaneously and present periodic status summaries to senior leadership.
- Identify project risks and establish mitigation strategies as required
- Develop detailed plans and project goals for yourself to ensure performance to schedule
- Accountable for product design documentation, archives, and accuracy of bills of materials
- Develop material cost estimates.
- Communicate with upper management on project status and key issues.
- Interpret technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated files
- Review and ensure that a consistent quality level is sustained by engineering team
- Foster a highly collaborative and effective working environment within the team and with other company functions
- Ensure compliance to all engineering ISO requirements as determined by the certification officer
- Assist in technical efforts for product design while maximizing team capabilities and capacity
- Research and development requirement for new products and procedures
- Establish and approve product design specifications and deliverables as agreed to with senior leadership
- Develop material cost estimates and partner to achieve cost goals
- Achieve design for manufacturability (DFM), quality, and testing targets
- Meet or exceed all customer design and performance criteria
- Sign off on product specification and collaborate cross-functionally for successful transition to production
- Participate in the review and selection of new opportunities with the leadership team based on best fit, return, and likelihood of success
- Take ownership to align CMI design and performance specification with customer requirements
- Assist in efforts to resolve technical issues, disputes, and change requests with the customer in a timely manner
- Engage with customers in a manner that builds their trust and confidence with CMI
- Be able to think out of the box to develop effective solutions to complex engineering problems
- Conduct research on alternative materials and design concepts for DC brushless motors, controllers, and packaging
- Stay current with leading edge electronic components and circuit design concepts that optimize motor efficiency
- Participate in cross functional continuous improvement activities focused on quality, manufacturability, cost reduction, lead time reduction, and product aesthetics
- Work to improve response time to customers, proposal thoroughness, and cost estimate accuracy
- Collaborate to advance and diversify the overall process and design capabilities of the company
- Increase the effective and efficient use of software tools Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Technical expertise in design of electro-mechanical assemblies for mid to high volume production and production tooling/automation
- Prior career experience in the design and manufacture of electro-mechanical devices including brushless DC motors and motor controllers
- Strong leadership skills with extensive experience leading small engineering teams
- Ability to mentor and motivate the engineering team to achieve excellence
- Excellent organization skills
- Project management expertise including use of MS Project or equivalent
- Strong communication skills
- Experience with DFM techniques and review
- Comfortable being the primary technical contact with customers
- CAD (SOLIDWORKS), GD&T, Mechanical Simulation software
- Utilization of Microsoft Office Suite products Additional Qualifications:
- Experience with ERP software and working with costed bills of materials
- Basic knowledge of material science
- Basic knowledge of Hermetically sealed packages
- Basic knowledge of stamping tool design
- Experience with Motor Simulation Software such as SimCenter MotorSolve
- Knowledge of ISO 9001-2015
