Job Description
The Mechanical Engineer supports all aspects of core cell design of Li-ion systems in product development at 24M. This includes but is not limited supporting the development of a packaging design to achieve market and/or customer targets; drafting of mechanical drawings and development of specifications, validation of said designs, as well as supporting the design and development of fixtures, assembly processes, enclosure and terminal materials selection. The mechanical engineer will work closely with R&D scientists, battery engineers, and manufacturing in evaluating designs, and developing products consistent with customer and manufacturing requirements.
Qualifications
- 1+ years' experience in Li-ion product design
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- Deep knowledge of the fundamentals of cell design and performance, product development, pilot and production processes, and FMEA of Lithium ion-based cells
- Experience developing and documenting component level and cell level specifications
- Strong problem solving skills, with the ability to combine theory with empirical observation
- Ability to interact effectively with vendors and colleagues
- Self-motivated, persistent, hands-on, and results-oriented
- Strong written and oral communication
- Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
- Established track record of successful electrochemical product design
- Working knowledge of statistics and analysis methods
Responsibilities
- Responsible for the development of electrochemical storage device enclosures, terminals, and internal structures/assemblies consistent with performance, mechanical, life, and cost targets
- Assisting in the design of module and pack systems, and their manufacturing.
- Oversee pilot process development and documentation, and support transfer to production scale.
- Develop component and product specifications for both made and purchased components and assemblies.
- Thermal behavior monitoring and simulation.
- Carry out cost down activities and second source development.
- Leading the drafting software activities for Advanced R&D activities (AutoCad, Solidworks, Ansys, COMSOL, etc.).
- Support failure analyses on parts and product from Mechanical Design view.
- Design and creation of test and assembly fixtures, hardware, etc.

- Capable of working in low moisture dry room environment: < 1.0% Relative Humidity (-50°C dew point)
- Capable of working in machine shop environment and operating machinery w/proper training
- Capable of wearing clean room attire when working in dry room environment: face mask, hair net, safety glasses, gloves, coverall suit and shoe covers
- Capable of meeting OSHA standards for manual lifting guidelines: < 50lbs
- Able to travel to support development activities with suppliers, partners, customers, etc.
