What You Will Do
We are currently seeking a qualified Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team for a contract position that may extend up to 6 months. The Mechanical Design Engineer will help us design world-changing laboratory automation systems and associated hardware products. In this role, you will also assist the applications and sales teams in the conceptualization of automation workcells, generate the bill of materials for projects and products, work with the procurement team and vendors to ensure all fabricated components are ordered and tracked, and generate assembly drawings and instructions for the Automation Team to build projects.
Responsibilities
- Assist applications and sales teams in the conceptualization of automated workcells
- Review workcell concept designs and assess feasibility
- Provide guidance on layout of workcell to ensure robot arm access and design best practices
- Assist in costing estimates for project quoting
- Design automation workcells and components for custom engineering projects
- Generate bill of materials
- Generate assembly drawings and instructions for the automation team
- Participate in the design and development of new hardware products for our automation workcells
- Interface with vendors to quote and order machined components, lining up alternative vendors when necessary
- Performs all other duties as assigned
Experience Requirements
- At least 1 year experience with generating fabrication drawings for machine shops
- At least 1 year experience designing hardware components and assemblies utilizing SolidWorks or another similar 3D CAD software
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Bioengineering, Mechanical Engineering, or comparable field
Training, Skills, Knowledge, and Qualifications
- Proficient with SolidWorks or another similar 3D CAD software
- Ability to write professional technical reports and procedures
- Must be task focused and have a results-oriented attitude and approach to the job responsibilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Benefits
Not a benefit eligible role. Salary range is $70,000 - $110,000 depending on experience. Contract position that may extend up to 6 months.
