Functions of Work:
The primary function of this position is to repair body and paint damage to vehicles and equipment. Incumbent serves as an advanced-level worker performing the most complex body/paint repairs on vehicles, equipment, parts, and metal fabrications. Job duties include but are not limited to body/paint repairs, removing and replacing upholstery,electrical accessories,glass, latches, hinges, lights and accessories.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Two years of experience or training in automotive/ equipment body repair.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
Training in automotive/equipment body repair from a trade school, vocational-technical school, or military school will substitute for the required experience. Training will be credited in six month increments.
FUNCTION OF WORK:
To perform major repair, replacement, refinishing, and painting of automotive and mobile equipment body components.
LEVEL OF WORK:
Advanced.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Direct from a Mechanic Supervisor or higher level personnel.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
May exercise functional supervision over lower level personnel.
LOCATION OF WORK:
May be used by all state agencies.
JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from Mechanic - Body Repairer 1 by the presence of advanced level body repair duties.
Differs from Mechanic Supervisor by the absence of direct supervisory responsibility.
EXAMPLES BELOW ARE A BRIEF SAMPLE OF COMMON DUTIES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS JOB TITLE. NOT ALL POSSIBLE TASKS ARE INCLUDED.
Analyzes extent of damage and estimates cost of body repair.
May provide guidance and assistance to lower level body repairers and others assisting in body repair.
Cuts and welds body components and replacement parts.
Performs major disassembly and reassembly of body components.
Repairs automotive or equipment seat assemblies, door locks, interior upholstery, etc.
Straightens or replaces damaged automobile, truck, construction equipment, or maintenance equipment body components.
Files, grinds, and sands surfaces to prepare them for painting.
Paints automotive and equipment bodies or components.
Adjusts and aligns body components such as doors, hoods, trunk lids, bumpers, etc.
Removes and replaces windshields, windows, moldings and trim.
Performs final application of lead and bondo fillers.
Adjusts headlights, aligns wheels, and bleeds brake system.
Removes dents in body surfaces using special hammers, mallets, dolly blocks, metal files, punches, etc.
May drive wrecker to transport damaged vehicles or equipment.
May rewire electrical units in body, repair exhaust systems, and cooling systems.
Prepares reports to provide proper documentation and cost accounting.Employment Type: Classified
