With a brand new state-of-the-art campus in the Pinewood neighborhood of Miami, JLA will be accepting student applications for grades 6, 7, 9, 10, and 11 in the Fall of 2024 for the academic year 2024-2025.

MATH DEPARTMENT ____________________________________________________
The Math Department at JLA provides students with a course sequence of deep and rich curricular core classes and electives. The goal of our program is to develop an appreciation of learning and ignite curiosity and critical thinking.
The Middle School offers the following honors, honors enriched, and advanced classes based on the Art of Problem Solving (AoPS):
● Math Grade 6
● Math Grade 7
● Pre-Algebra (honors and AoPS)
● Algebra 1 (honors and AoPS)
● Geometry (honors and AoPS)
The Upper School core curriculum offers the following honors, honors enriched, and advanced college-level classes based on the Art of Problem Solving (AoPS):
● Algebra 2 (honors and AoPS)
● Precalculus (honors and AoPS)
● Number Theory & Counting and Probability (AoPS)
● Calculus (honors and AoPS)
● Statistics (honors and AoPS)
● AoPS Competition Prep
● Linear Algebra (honors and AoPS)
● Multivariable Calculus (honors and AoPS)
Students are placed by assessment.
We are seeking faculty who will employ teaching methodologies ranging from concrete to symbolic approaches to solve math problems not only in theoretical models but also in real-life situations.
RESPONSIBILITIES _________________________________________________________
Full-time employment for faculty teaching positions will commence in August 2024.
Responsibilities will include:
● Advisory, media literacy, research, service learning, or mentorship role as part of our unique schedule.
● Tutorial sessions twice weekly
● Robust professional development throughout the year
● Special onboarding and leadership programming with students for the first 3 weeks of the school year
QUALIFICATIONS _________________________________________________________
Applicants must have a minimum of 5 years of teaching experience at the middle/upper school level, as well as a strong foundation in classroom pedagogy. He/She must have an undergraduate degree in a related field, though advanced degrees are preferred. Experience working with gifted and talented students is an asset.
In addition, the successful candidate will demonstrate:
● The ability to connect with and inspire students.
● The ability and desire to work collaboratively on a high-functioning team.
● Excellent people skills.
● Mastery of Google Workspace for Education and an overall comfort with technology.
● Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
● The desire to be a part of a learning community.
● A strong work ethic.
● An understanding of project and inquiry-based learning as well as design thinking.
