- Triage and follow-up on incoming and outgoing communication in the department. Transfer calls or relay messages to proper personnel.
- Assemble new charts, replacing charting material in the patient chart, place diagnostic results on correct charts and keep the medical record organized.
- Receive diagnostic results and inform nursing staff and physician. Assist physicians with medical records and reports as needed and tear down charts at discharge and send to medical records.
- Greet, direct, and assist patients, families, ancillary staff and visitors. Maintain nursing station in an orderly fashion.
- Contact admitting arranging for admission of patients.
- Notify nursing staff of new patients and assist the nurse in keeping families informed. Register the patient, entering demographics and insurance information.
- Contact other departments as directed to arrange for immediate diagnostic tests for patients and scheduling of outpatient procedures.
- Inventory and order specific supplies for the department. Keep supplies in proper storage areas so they are readily accessible.
- Answer patient call lights if applicable in respective department
- Prepare shift assignment sheets as applicable.
- Complete unit specific administrative responsibilities applicable to patient care or unit operations as directed or assigned.
- Oversee transportation of patients as applicable.
Education Requirements
- Minimum: High School Diploma or equivalent
- Preferred: Experience with medical terminology
Experience Requirements
- Minimum: One (1) year of Unit Secretary or other secretarial related work
- Preferred: Work experience in a health care setting preferred.
