The Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine is seeking an Maternal Fetal Medicine specialist committed to an academic career in Gynecology & Obstetrics. The position will hold a rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

 

Established more than 25 years ago, the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Division was one of the first specialty units in the country. Today the division provides services at Emory Perinatal Center at Emory University Hospital Midtown, Emory Perinatal Center at Decatur, and the Grady Regional Perinatal Center, the largest of only six regional high-risk infant care centers in the south. The division is seeking MFM specialists to serve at Grady Memorial Hospital.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include teaching medical students and residents and providing inpatient and outpatient obstetrics care. Candidates should be comfortable in providing consultative services for the General obstetricians in the treatment of obstetric and Maternal Fetal Medicine concerns to medically complex patients. The faculty member is expected to serve the University in areas of teaching, research, and clinical service appropriate to their professional training and capabilities and their career goals. 

 

Primary clinical responsibilities would be participation in all the clinical activities of the Division, particularly its clinical activities at Grady Memorial Hospital and affiliated sites. The faculty member would be expected to deliver excellent care to patients while growing and expanding access for obstetrical patients in the Emory Maternal Fetal Medicine at Grady clinical practices. Faculty members are expected to supervise mid-level providers assigned to the clinical practice location. 

 

Faculty Members are also be expected to demonstrate outstanding activity in the teaching aspects of the Department. Specifically, this would include:

  • Providing teaching instruction and supervision to fellows, residents, and medical students in Obstetrics and Maternal Fetal Medicine.
  • Providing lectures to fellows, residents and medical students as requested.
  • Attending Grand Rounds, M&M Conferences, Journal Club, Division meetings and other Departmental activities.
  • Participating in mentorship of fellows, medical students, and residents.

 

Qualifications:

Qualified candidates must have a terminal degree (MD or DO), successfully completed a 4-year ACGME-accredited obstetrics and gynecology residency program and Maternal-Fetal Medicine fellowship training program. Must be Board Eligible or Board Certified in obstetrics and gynecology. Licensure by the Georgia Composite Medical Board will be required prior to commencement of employment.

Emory Gynecology & Obstetrics at Grady:

The Emory Department of Gynecology & Obstetrics provides full scope of obstetrics services for patients at Grady Memorial Hospital and is also a Regional Perinatal Center for the state of Georgia. We provide outpatient care for both routine and high-risk pregnancies, as well as run inpatient antepartum and postpartum services as well as an OB Triage unit.  Grady Memorial Hospital is the only Level 1 trauma center in Atlanta, and the obstetric service offers obstetric intensive care as well as arranges transport for high-risk maternal and fetal patients from across the region, including placenta accreta spectrum patients.

 

The Grady Perinatal Center provides antepartum fetal testing and routine obstetric scans, and the obstetric service offers procedures including Cesarean sections, External Cephalic Versions, forceps, vacuum deliveries, as well as amniocentesis and cerclage. Grady Memorial Hospital is one of the main teaching sites for the Emory Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics Residency, and both faculty and resident are in-house for Labor and Delivery coverage 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and maternal-fetal-medicine subspecialists are available day and night. Additionally, our service provides Nurse Midwifery services, both in the ambulatory setting at some of the Grady Neighborhood Health Centers and in the ambulatory clinics at Grady, as well as inpatient services on the labor and delivery, OB Triage, and postpartum units. The Nurse Midwives also facilitate Centering group prenatal care.   

 

Grady Memorial Hospital is a nationally renowned tertiary care hospital located in downtown Atlanta. It is one of the busiest trauma hospitals in the country and the only Level 1 trauma center in Atlanta metro area. The hospital also has a large center devoted to care for burns, advanced comprehensive stroke, cancer and women’s health. Grady is a public academic hospital and cares for a diversity of patients with a commitment to the underserved.
