Job Brief:
The Materials Planner is responsible for managing the procurement process, maintaining optimal inventory levels, and coordinating production schedules to meet customer demand. This role involves liaising with suppliers, customers, and production teams to ensure timely and efficient material flow throughout the supply chain.
Key Responsibilities:
- Source, select, and negotiate with suppliers to obtain the best terms, prices, and delivery schedules.
- Issue purchase orders (POs) and ensure accurate and timely order placement.
- Monitor inventory levels and analyze demand trends to determine optimal stock levels.
- Implement inventory control strategies to minimize excess or obsolete inventory while avoiding stockouts.
- Develop and implement SOP’s for inventory maximization and/or other relevant procedures.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to identify slow-moving or obsolete items and recommend appropriate actions.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers and customers.
- Collect and analyze data related to procurement, inventory, and production performance.
- Prepare and present regular reports on key performance indicators (KPIs) to inform decision-making.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, experience in lieu of degree will be considered.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Purchasing/material planner experience preferred.
- Highly organized and detail oriented.
- Ability to work independently and with a team.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to conduct root cause analysis and identify process improvements.
- Knowledge of logistics and supply chain principles.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time.
- Periods of standing and walking through the factory.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk working on computers.
- Visual acuity to inspect products and machinery.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None.
Travel:
- 10%
Work Environment:
- Exposure to warehouse environment that may include loud noises.
- Exposure to fluorescent lighting in an office environment.
