Job description

The Materials Handler will be responsible for the pick order planning by week and for the safe loading and unloading of materials throughout the warehouse and production facility. The Materials Handler will utilize pallet jacks, forklifts, hand tools and other equipment in a safe manner to deliver production materials and supplies as required to ensure product manufacture. The Materials Handler will be aware of and follow FIFO and 5S processes to minimize raw ingredient and final product waste. The Materials Handler may be called upon for urgent response to short picks and supply needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Works daily/weekly with production supervisors/line leads on production plan to ensure material is picked and available for start of production each shift
  • Maintains inventory by identifying, labeling, and placing materials and supplies in stock; ensuring locations are properly recorded in Adage
  • Responsible for labeling all boxes and bags used by production
  • Ensures proper FIFO and 5S within the warehouse (where applicable)
  • Properly manages material transactions within Adage
  • Performs picker responsibilities as needed (trained back up)
  • Performs shipping and receiving responsibilities as needed (trained back up)
  • Maintains and performs regular onsite material audits
  • Works closely with Warehouse Manager on 5S initiatives related to warehouse
  • Ensures warehouse area is clean and tidy
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or general education degree and five or more years industrial maintenance or equivalent experience
  • 1 – 3 years of related experience
  • Forklift certification
    • Skilled operation of stand-up and sit-down forklifts
Knowledge and Skills
  • Excellent problem solving and critical thinking ability
  • Confident decision making ability
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong organization, prioritization, multi-tasking and planning skills
  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written
  • Good computer skill and MS Office knowledge
    • Experience in Adage preferred
  • Comfort with recommending and implementing Process Improvement initiatives
  • Experience with inventory control best practices, desired

Physical Demands:
Employee is frequently required to bend/stoop, squat, twist trunk, lift up to 50 lbs, climb heights, reach, push/pull, and sweep. Employee must repetitively grasp objects simply and firmly and use fine manipulation dexterity. Must be able to use hands together and separately at all levels, from ankle to above head. Must use both feet together, separately and repetitively to operate equipment. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. Must be able to hear and follow instruction.
Work Hazards: Stand and walk on dusty or wet floors. Climb ladders and crouch under equipment. Handle chemicals and dry materials with hazards associated with each of them. Use/operate tools and equipment to perform various maintenance and/or production tasks. Work around moving machinery and in confined spaces. Operate forklift. Lift up to 50 lbs. Handle hazardous chemicals in production equipment when it breaks down. Work with hoses and connections which may sometimes spray chemicals, ingredients when broken down.
Work Environment: Exposure to noise, heat, excessive changes in temperature and humidity, and airborne dust particles.
Safety Equipment: Bump caps, hearing protection, hair net, beard net (if applicable), uniforms, safety glasses, gloves and safety boots.
