SUMMARY OF POSITION
Under limited supervision, performs skilled electrical work in installing, altering, maintaining,
and repairing electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures up to 600 volts AC associated with water
treatment and distribution and wastewater collection and treatment.
Performs various routine and complex technical work inspecting electrical work in a building, lift
station, pump station, and other utility construction to ensure that the National Electrical Code
(NEC), other related codes, and WCID #17 standards are met.
Organizational Relationships
1. Reports to the Maintenance Supervisor
2. Directs: This is a non-supervisory position
3. Other: Has frequent contact with other district employees
Duties and Responsibilities
Typical duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Install control panels, conduits, wires, relays, pull boxes, and switches required in making
additions, extensions, or alterations in electrical systems.
2. Repair and replace defective parts in control panels, motors, air conditioners, generators,
pumps, relays, controllers, switches, PLCs, SCADA equipment, and other fixtures and appliances.
3. Installs, tests, troubleshoots and performs preventative maintenance and repairs to a variety of
high voltage equipment including variable frequency drives (VFDs), motors, pumps, pumps,
generators, transformers, switchgear, motor control centers (MCC), transfer switches, control
devices, and instruments.
4. Disconnect electrical sources, use lockout/tagout procedures where required, and re- establishes
electrical service after investigation, maintenance, and repair of equipment.
5. Test, troubleshoot, and repair defects in electrical circuits or equipment.
6. Operate a variety of diagnostic instruments and a variety of hand and electric tools.
7. Operate a 6,000lbs crane truck for repair of pumps and equipment as necessary.
8. Performs such other duties as may be related.
9. Inspects electrical wiring installations or alterations in industrial and commercial structures
to ensure compliance with rules and regulations for safe wiring.
10. Writes correction notices where unsafe wiring conditions are found; re-inspects installation to
ensure that corrections have been made
11. Checks plans and blueprints for electrical projects to determine compliance with the National
Electrical Code (NEC), State Rules and Regulations, and WCID #17 electrical standards.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Able to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and prepare written reports of
activities performed.
Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers. Ability to
deal effectively with the public in stressful situations.
Able to tolerate outside working conditions, including exposure to adverse weather conditions. Able
to read and understand electrical and mechanical equipment O&M manuals, including schematics,
drawings, blueprints, and technical data instructions.
Able to locate and adjust/repair defects in electrical systems and equipment. Must be able to use
and care for tools and equipment.
Able to work overtime as required.
Able to work on-call as required.
Able to work in confined spaces such as manholes, wet wells, and valve boxes. Must perform work in
compliance with the National Electric Code (NEC).
Must be able to wear and use a Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA). Ability to climb
vertically 260+ feet.
Requirements
Must have a Master electrician licensed through TDLR.
Must have 2-4 years of experience working as a Master Electrician
Practices, methods, techniques, tools, and equipment used in the installation, maintenance, and
repair of mechanical equipment and machinery common to water and wastewater collection systems.
E/P actuator troubleshooting experience. Basic first aid procedures.
Standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment of the electrical trade. Basic electrical
theory and electrical safety procedures.
Working knowledge of Applicable National Electrical Code (NEC).
Routine motor maintenance including preventative maintenance and minor repairs such as bearing
replacements.
Working knowledge of construction and operation of water treatment, distribution, and wastewater
treatment and collections systems.
Basic to advanced electrical troubleshooting.
Valid Texas Driver's license. Maintenance Electrician license
Physical Demands
Demonstrate proficiency in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing with interruptions and changes
in priorities; tolerate outside working conditions, including exposure to adverse weather
conditions; and obtain and maintain appropriate necessary certifications.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, sit, walk,
climb stairs, bend, stoop, squat, crouch, kneel, push, pull, reach, twist, and repetitive motions.
The employee is occasionally required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or operate objects,
tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. Must be able to lift and move up to 75 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust
focus.

The work environment is from indoor to outdoor in all conditions. Must be able to perform essential
duties in all environments, day or night. Characteristics described here are representative of
