Overview
HarperCollins Children’s Books is seeking a creative, organized, and dynamic Marketing and Publicity Manager to work on early reader and backlist campaigns for a variety of children’s books and brandsranging from non-fiction to literary and commercial fiction, as well as group campaigns featuring frontlist and backlist titles.Duties include developing and executing marketing plans, event coordination, managing title budgets, presenting at internal and external meetings, social media strategy/content creation, and extensive copywriting.
This is an incredible opportunity to join an enthusiastic, dedicated early reader and backlist team that works on a wide range of books and brands such as literary successes by award-winning creators like Kevin Henkes, Neil Gaiman, and Chris Van Allsburg, commercial hits like Little Blue Truck and the Pete the Cat series, and celebrity hits like I Promise and Stacey’s Extraordinary Words – just to name a few!
This position is based out of NYC on a hybrid schedule.
Responsibilities
- Collaborates with Marketing Directors and other team members to shape early reader and back list title strategy and to execute larger initiatives.
Brainstorms, develops, and executes integrated marketing and publicity campaigns for select titles and brands and communicate updates directly to key stakeholders both internally and externally.
Guides opportunities to promote backlist books, including developing cost-effective campaigns, leveraging current trends.
Manages budgets for assigned titles and projects.
Oversees standalone author/illustrator events, including local bookstore, school, and festival appearances.
Manages fulfillment ofcalls for information from Edelweiss and the Children’s Book Council.
Develops, creates, and edits short- and long-form content for social media (vertical video, round-up posts, blogs, etc.) in close coordination with Early Readers/Backlist, and digital teams.
Manages and maintains social media brand pages and work closely with Marketing Coordinator to develop and create content.
Develops content, schedule, and deploys email outreach to curated marketing lists.
Manages growth and integrity of influencer outreach contact lists to inform outreach.
Coordinates group campaigns tied to specific cultural, social, and/or holiday moments.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience in trade book marketing and/or kids’ product marketing; children’s book experience preferred (with some early reader experience a plus)
Excellent project management, communication, budget management, organizational, prioritization and presentation skills a must
Exceptional written and oral communications skills, positive attitude, and a high level of professionalism, creativity, and attention to detail
Proficient in Microsoft Office, digital creative programs such as Canva; social media knowledge and skills, including any content creation experience
Skilled in using major social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest,etc.
Excellent writing skills, including ability to write in a voice appealing to parents, grandparents, and caregivers
Experience working on compelling, of-the-moment campaigns to reach a consumer audience
Comfortable presenting in front of large groups and on camera
Appreciation and knowledge of current trends in popular culture extremely helpful
Must be a resourceful self-starter who can take initiative and independently solve problems
Ability to work cross-functionally across the division and within the company
Ability to balance priorities while under pressure

The salary range for this position is $65,000-$70,000. We recognize that attracting the best talent is key to our strategy and success as a company. As a result, we aim for flexibility in structuring competitive compensation offers to ensure we are able to attract the best candidates. The quoted salary range represents our good faith estimate as to what our ideal candidates are likely to expect, and we tailor our offers within the range based on the selected candidate's experience, industry knowledge, technical and communication skills, and other factors that may prove relevant during the interview process.
