We are currently seeking a Manufacturing Process Engineer to be develop and provide technical support to production lamination of a new Power Distribution Busbars manufacturing facility in support of the rapidly growing Power Electronics market. This will be a hands on working engineer that will drive the lamination process development, provide technical direction and support to the production team. This position will also assist in the planning, training and operational execution of this new facility. Familiarity with all operations involved in sheet metal fabrication is assumed with an opportunity to extend that knowledge base into areas of final product assembly and test of multi-layer laminated products. Responsible for Design-for-Manufacturability analysis, process development, quality, cost, efficiency, troubleshooting equipment, and vendor management.
Responsibilities and Duties

  • Evaluates, implements, and monitors process and operating systems of the bus bar lamination.
  • Specification and selection of the equipment used for the purpose of die cutting dielectric sheets, utilized in the lamination of multi-layer copper/dielectrics, and for bus bar lamination.
  • Familiarity with epoxy application and encapsulation processes.
  • Cost Estimation in the support of the RFQ phase. This will include all material/labor costs as well as outside process costs.
  • Perform Design-for-Manufacturability (DFM) analysis through specification/drawing review with the intent to uncover manufacturing issues and make recommendations related to minimizing costs.
  • Development of workflow processes for manufacturing.
  • Design of fixtures/tooling that insures parts are manufactured to meet all print specifications.
  • Process Improvement including the use of "lean" tools to drive productivity improvements.
  • Develop qualification test requirements for busbar products.
  • Work closely with Quality Assurance in determining the reliability requirements of busbar products.
  • Advises, troubleshoots, and expedites resolutions and implements corrective actions to facilitate cost reduction, work simplification and safety.
  • Assist Purchasing in technical communications with Suppliers.

Qualifications and Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related discipline, plus minimum of 10 years related experience or comparable education and work experience.
  • Good communications skills are necessary for participation in cross-functional design reviews as well as customer attended design concept discussions.
  • Working knowledge and application of principles and techniques commonly employed in the design and manufacture of laminated copper/dielectric busbars and related products.
  • Working knowledge of how design solutions may be used in developing the qualification tests and reliability parameters.
  • Must have an understanding of all elements of sheet metal fabrication and finishing, i.e., stamping, forming, plating.
  • Must be able to work with a high degree of accuracy, under pressure and with frequent interruptions.
  • Must have a working knowledge of personal computers, SolidWorks CAD Software, software and ERP.
  • Must possess strong diplomacy and problem solving skills.
  • Must have a good understanding of Geometric Dimensioning Tolerancing per ANSI standards.
  • Must be able to work with suppliers and communicate design concerns and parameters.
