Caterpillar’s Large Power Systems (LPSD) Division will focus on delivering reliable and best-in-class fuel injection solutions to our customers. Focus areas for this position include machining, gaging, and testing of fuel injector components to support engine design and development.

Job Summary

Caterpillar’s Common Rail Injector Team is looking for a lead engineer to serve as component and process owner within the Manufacturing Engineering team. This exciting opportunity will serve a critical role in the design and development of robust processes for a wide range of fuel system applications. The Common Rail Injector Team consists of over 20 mechanical and Manufacturing Engineers developing the Next Generation of Caterpillar fuel injection equipment. Important Position Information:

  • The position is located in Pontiac, IL.
  • Domestic relocation is available for this position.
  • Up to 15% domestic/international travel is required.

What you will do (includes, but not limited to):

  • Create and implement documentation for new processes and products.
  • Develops, analyzes, and manages multiple Manufacturing/ Assembly Projects.
  • Maintains project capital forecast.
  • Engages in creative problem solving to address operational issues including ergonomic/ safety, efficiency improvements, process bottlenecks, and quality concerns.
  • Works with internal and external suppliers to develop and manage projects while ensuring efficient and cost-effective systems and processes.
  • Coordinates, plans, monitors, and reports activities related to process design / flow, financial analysis, and state-of-the-art manufacturing processes.
  • Provides manufacturing technical support in process control and internal certification.
  • Coordinates the purchase and application of machine tools, controls, and related equipment corporate wide to ensure the latest technology is being used to increase efficiency and economy of operations.

What you must have:

  • Bachelor of Engineering or technical equivalent or
  • 10 years of manufacturing experience
  • At least 3 years of machining or engineering experience
  • Experience with APQP/ PPAP as it pertains to product development
  • Project planning (short and long term) experience
  • Excellent analytical skills and understanding of complex engineering concepts and applications
  • Self-starter with strong technical leadership skills
  • Excellent relationship building and interpersonal skills to enable coaching and/or influencing others on new technologies, new applications, or potential solutions
  • Ability to communicate, collaborate, and build trust across a wide and diverse range of people – product specialists, internal partners, technicians, suppliers, and engineers

Top candidates will also have:

  • Production process development
  • Troubleshooting/ RCCA understanding/ experience
  • Machine programming and process planning experience (PLC, Fanuc, Siemens)
  • Direct responsibility for execution of capital projects
  • High precision grinding and machining processes with associated tooling required
  • Ability to read and interpret Engineering prints & translate into Operational drawings
  • Safety FMEA and job hazard assessments
  • Experience using Visio, Excel, Microsoft Project, and PowerBI
