- Collaborate closely with Structures Design Engineering and CAE Engineering to support Design for Manufacturability (DFM) in future programs early in the design phase
- This role will be involved in the design, development, commissioning and ramping of high-speed automated laser welding equipment, while working in a cross-functional team to test, validate, and roll-out process and product design changes
- Drive laser cell reviews of process design, fixture design, simulations, cycle time plan, line layout, equipment maintenance strategy and optimizing towards high-speed limits
- During high volume launching, this role will lead the laser welding related equipment installation, commissioning, and ramp of high-volume production lines, ensuring close collaboration with Tesla’s partner vendors to deliver the line in the shortest possible timing and within project budgets
- Take direct responsibility for achieving welding quality targets and lead all activities towards this objective including the development of quality control plans, PFMEA and dimensional improvement plans
- Plan and execute DoEs to characterize boundary conditions and optimize process for laser welding manufacturability and quality
- Review laser welding strength and cross-section data for quality analysis
- Arrange laser welding process training for production sustaining joining team and maintenance team
- Collect and prepare the final documentation handover package to ensure the long-term sustainability and optimization of new production lines
- B.S. or MS in Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, experience and evidence of exceptional ability, or equivalent
- 3+ years of related experience developing and launching complex laser welding processes
- In-depth understanding and knowledge of laser welding process, equipment, and metallurgy
- Able to function independently, be a strong collaborator when working in a team, detail oriented, organized, hands-on and able to make strong decisions
- Work well under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines
- Remain engaged, initiative-taking, positive in tough circumstances, owning assignments and taking full accountability for their success
- Maintain flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities and assignments, coping with rapidly changing information

- Have working knowledge of Design for Manufacturability (DFM)
- Extensive proficiency creating written and pictorial documentation of manufacturing processes
- 3D CAD experience in reviewing and modifying 3D models of tooling and product
- Collect, analyze, and summarize information to a general understanding, thinking abstractly and separating complex ideas into simple elements
- Experience creating various reports and database tools for presentation to Leaders within the organization
- Experience with Robotic or PLC programming and configuration is preferable
- Good understanding of BOMs, manufacturability, process design, process validation, assembly methods, design reviews and cost reduction methodologies
- Experienced with AUTOCAD, CATIA 3DX and other similar software/tools
