The primary role of the Manufacturing Engineeris participation in developing operation and performance standards. Development and ongoing implementation of manufacturing processes and equipment that best utilizes available labor, materials, and production time for manufacturing operations throughout the facility focusing on safety, consistent operating methods, and efficiency, supporting profit improvements in product design and engineering processes. Their main duties include implementing, supporting, and monitoring the processes, updating current methods, and conducting risk assessments.
Under limited supervision, manages the documentation, design (if any) and supports the correct execution of the manufacturing processes related with large parts and assemblies from composite materials.
Responsibilities:
- Adhere to and Comply with all Company and Government Safety rules and Regulations.
- Support efforts in the areas of LEAN, 6S or other improvement initiatives.
- Develops new processes and improves existing products and processes. Drives improvements of processes quality and costs to meet or exceed customer requirements.
- Implements design changes to improve quality, performance, cost reduction, and standardization through analysis of designs and problem-solving techniques.
- Maintains timely and effective communication with supervisors and peers through various avenues such as e-mails, monthly reports, and engineering reports.
- Works closely with other engineers and technical specialists to increase functional knowledge.
- Coach and mentor other team members to develop strong technical expertise in all areas.
- Implement lean manufacturing principles where appropriate, Yield/Variance support.
- Technical resource for Production, Quality, and Maintenance departments.
- Develops and maintains documentation and records such as work instructions, data recording forms databases, etc.
- Performs shop floor duties to maximize position effectiveness.
- Dispositions defects, SDR control, Repair plans, Corrective Actions Support.
- Determines root cause of Production issues using analytical problem-solving skills and tools.
- Support efforts in the areas of certifications, regulatory compliance, and other company certifications as they relate to the material development and process engineering functions.
- Bench trials, shop trials, calibrations/measurements.
- Process qualifications for new tools, products, and materials, MPP Qualifications Support.
- CAD/CAM/CNC programming/troubleshooting including advanced composite manufacturing processes.
- Provides input on the need for budget related items i.e., equipment, tools, etc.
- Assist with other duties or responsibilities as may be assigned.
Training / Qualifications:
- Holds a technical degree or diploma specializing in mechanical, electrical, or chemical engineering or equivalent experience. Industrial Management/Technology considered.
- Hands on knowledge of design or setup of composite manufacturing processes. Technical knowledge and experience with filament winding and pultrusion are a plus.
- Has working experience in mid-volume composite manufacturing.
- 4-6 years of experience in a manufacturing environment (manufacturing composites experience preferred) with hands on experience with implementation of engineering processes and procedures.
- Possesses the ability to identify operational steps and develop methods to control the variability in process or resources.
- Ability to solve problems, propose conceptual solutions, and characterize/quantify potential risks effectively and creatively
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles.
- Ability to apply Engineering principles in practical applications with strong analytical skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate through all levels of the organization and outside suppliers/contractors
- Possess a proactive work style with the proven ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize and meet deadlines while maintaining a commitment to a high level of accuracy and quality in all aspects of work.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
- Thorough knowledge of and experience with Microsoft office products.
- Proficient skill level in SolidWorks, AutoCAD and/or other design applications required.
- Familiar with Industrial Automation principles, CNC machinery is a plus
- Attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Excellent organizational skills and excellent computer skills.
- Basic understanding of ERP systems and databases.
