The Manufacturing Engineer develops, maintains, and audits manufacturing and assembly processes used at Reading Truck Centers. You are responsible for advancing the manufacturing operations by developing, specifying, evaluating, and implementing safer, more repeatable, more reliable, and more cost effective fabrication, assembly and finishing processes and equipment.
The Nuts and Bolts
- Develop and maintain standard work, best practices and installation instructions for Reading Truck standard product
- Assign labor and routings for Reading's high complexity, non-standard work
- Develop, design, specify, test and maintain records for production equipment, tooling, gauges, jigs, and fixtures to optimize manufacturing process, including safety, quality and efficiency by studying product requirements and applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials
- Improve manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning work flow, space requirements, and equipment layout
- Design and analyze labor and space requirements, product design, quality requirements, workflow, layout of equipment and workspace to maximize efficiency, consistency and effectiveness of manufacturing and assembly operations and projects
- Collaborate with design and manufacturing teams to design processes that produce product within product and process specifications
- Review and analyze product sketches, designs, models, and drawings to make recommendations to improve manufacturability; provide design support for manufacturing projects
- Train and support operations with trouble shooting and maintaining of the assembly and manufacturing processes, fixture, and equipment to reduce downtime and improve efficiency
- Keep the leadership regularly updated of the key metrics and progress of each project
- Responsible for estimating and executing projects within budget and on-time
Required Credentials
- Five (5) years of experience in truck body or other similar sheet metal fabrication industry is strongly preferred
- Experience with DFM, DFMEA/PFMEA and their applications and Lean Manufacturing
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering/Technology, or equivalent experience
- Skilled in Solid works or 3D modeling software is required
- Ability to oversee, guide, and train engineering technicians and operations personnel
