Manufacturing Engineer 1

Purpose:

• Performs the stated tasks and responsibilities under general supervision, applies basic principles, concepts and practices of discipline.
• Is assigned tasks where methods and desired results have been delineated.

• Develops, evaluates, and improves manufacturing methods
• Coordinates with others in planning work force utilization, space requirements, and workflow, layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency
• Confers with planning and design staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods.
• Confers with vendors to determine product specifications and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts, and evaluates products according to specifications and quality standards.
• Estimates production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions.
• Confers with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes
• Applies statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements and potential.
• Evaluates latest tooling technology and incorporates into existing processes
• Consults with customer and other personnel regarding product information such as design, capacity and purpose, and types of material to be used to fabricate product.
• Analyzes written specifications, drawings, rough sketches, and verbal instructions to plan layout and determine sequence of operations.
• Selects metal stock and lays out design according to dimensions computed from scale drawings.
• Designs fixtures, tooling, and experimental parts to meet special engineering needs
• Identifies and recommends changes or modifications for efficiency and adaptability to setup and production processes
• Generates machine tool code using current CAD/CAM software tools.
• Participates in the Bid & Proposal process and marketing to provide technical information
• Supports failure analysis and implementation of corrective action, MRB, rework and repair and design to cost efforts.
• Responsible for the conversion the “as-designed” configuration to the “as-planned” configuration and maintaining this equivalence through Change Review Board and Material Review Board activities.
• Participates in meetings, seminars and training sessions to stay apprised of new developments in field.
• Works independently in assigned area and applies seasoned knowledge to many engineering disciplines. Ensures successful completion of assigned project within budgeted time and cost constraints.
• Support proposal activities and contribute in writing assignments.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Education: Bachelor's Degree

Additional Certifications:

• 6 Sigma methodology, Lean Manufacturing, Statistical Process Control, ISO-9001 or 9002 standard, Robotics, Open die extrusion and cold forming, open die hot forging, steel welding (MIG, TIG, SAW).

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Heat Treatment, Shot Blasting, Machining, Conversion coating, Painting, Assembly, Trouble shooting, process improvement and project leadership.
