ABOUT THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE:
The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office is a full service agency that oversees the adult jail, provides patrol, criminal investigations, civil process and search and rescue operations. Special units include SWAT, Marine Patrol, ATV Patrol, Forest Patrol, along with five K9 teams. Founded in 1916 and today led by your duly elected Sheriff L. Shane Nelson, the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office serves over 200,000 residents in Deschutes County.

ABOUT THE JOB:
This position is responsible for managing, planning, organizing, and supervising the day-to-day activities of the IT team; performs a variety of technical and administrative duties relative to maintaining technology systems for the Sheriff’s Office, including technical support, cybersecurity, project management, workstation installation and maintenance, data management, communications systems support, and training to users on a variety of software and hardware systems that serve the Sheriff’s Office.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Manages Sheriff’s Office IT operations support, workstation installation and maintenance, phone system support; access control, network systems, and data communications support.
  • Manages, plans, develops, coordinates, and implements approved technology integration projects following best practices.
  • Manages IT disaster recovery planning for the Sheriff’s Office, and the development of processes and procedures to ensure critical systems and data can recover from cybersecurity events.
  • Ensure software and systems are updated to prevent and block threats.
  • Understand the security requirements for the Sheriff’s Office.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulatory requirements, County Code and Policies.
  • Ensures data security and confidentiality of records and information for the Sheriff’s Office
  • Collaborate with other units at Deschutes County to achieve common goals and objectives.
What You Will Bring:
Knowledge of or experience with:
  • Sheriff’s Office organization, operations, policies, and procedures.
  • Cybersecurity best practices, principles, practices, and technologies.
  • Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) best practices for data security, storage, information transmission and retention.
  • Experience providing technical support to customers.
  • Knowledge of network fundamentals.
  • Proficiency with project scoping, planning, and implementing.
  • Administration and maintenance principles of network operating domains, relational databases, website design, and windows-based software applications.
Skill in:
  • Being an effective leader to manage and motivate teams, set priorities, and foster a culture of security awareness with the organization.
  • Developing long-term security strategies aligned with the organization’s business goals and evolving threats.
  • Regulatory compliance, trends, and technologies.
  • Supervising staff, delegating tasks and authority, and evaluating staff performance.
  • Diagnosing and resolving technical problems in a network/distributed systems environment.
  • Working independently in a technical environment with interlinked and changing priorities.
  • Solving technical problems involving multiple operating systems and hardware platforms.
  • Installing, repairing, and maintaining computer software, hardware, and peripherals in a multiple operating system environment.

Compensation

$8,762.56 to $11,742.67 per month for a 173.33 hour work month. Excellent County benefit package when eligible. This position is available immediately.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a closely related field;
  • AND five (5) years of related IT security experience, including managerial experience;
  • OR any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills and knowledge to perform the essential functions of the job.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Government or Law Enforcement experience.

Necessary Special Requirements

Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Oregon driver's license within 30 days of hire date. The employment offer will be contingent upon presentation of an acceptable and verifiable driver's license, pre-employment screening for criminal history, driving history, and controlled substances (NOTE: Positive test results for marijuana use may result in rescission of a contingent offer of employment). This screening must be completed with satisfactory findings in order for a formal offer of employment to be extended.
A successful candidate will complete a full background investigation prior to receiving a conditional job offer. A psychological evaluation will be required after the conditional job offer.
Must pass a pre-qualifying driving record review and criminal history background.
