We have an exciting opportunity for a Safety & Mission Assurance Office Manager to join the team with our Safety and Mission Assurance Office.

This position reports to the Program Manager of the Clear Lake Group and is responsible for all aspects of flight systems safety, Mission Assurance and safety, environmental and health. 

This individual leads a diverse team of occupational safety and health, systems safety, quality and configuration management professionals to provide safety and Mission Assurance to all aspects of Clear Lake Group operations in accordance with federal and state laws, NASA and JSC requirements and Jacobs standard operating procedures. An individual who is well qualified for this position will possess strong leadership and communication skills, a strong aerospace technical background with a focus on systems engineering, and the proactive attitude required to lead an effort of this scale. Success in this role also requires process-oriented thinking, the ability to drive continuous improvement and the flexibility and personnel-development skills to provide a wide variety of services with a small team. 

The successful candidate will possess strategic and critical thinking skills to provide agility in the negotiation of process approaches within the confines of contract requirements. To this end, demonstrated proficiency in the rapid negotiation and resolution of process conflicts is paramount.

The Manager of the Safety & Mission Assurance Office will: 

  • Provide direct management of the Safety & Mission Assurance Office, providing oversight, assistance, performance evaluation and development of teams and employees.
  • Advise the CLG Program Manager and senior management on government, customer, corporate, and project-specific safety and quality requirements and issues.
  • Work with management to ensure all personnel operate within the established safety and quality framework to deliver quality work and safely conduct operations.
  • Perform periodic reviews of program effectiveness and performance with respect to requirements and identify specific areas of focus for continuous improvement through the annual CLG Business Plan.
  • Represent CLG as the Management System Representative (MSR) for CLG's AS9100D certification.
  • Oversee the CLG Mission Assurance Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) process, including assisting supervisors in investigating project-level mishaps and non-conformances, formulating recommendations to prevent recurrences, and reporting results to the Program Manager.
  • Ensure the product quality and requirements compliance of CLG products and services, including those products and services provided by subcontractors.
  • Oversee teams developing Acceptance, Certification and Safety Data packages and contract delivery documentation for flight hardware.
  • Provide procurement quality assurance services to apply subcontract quality requirements and verifications for all CLG procurements.
  • Oversee CLG participation in the Government-Industry Data Exchange Program (GIDEP) in accordance with contract requirements to ensure product quality.
  • Oversee CLG's internal and external auditing processes and programs
  • Oversee CLG's Supplier Quality Management system and related supplier performance.
  • Perform other duties as required. 

Requisition Qualifications:

This position has been posted at multiple levels. Depending on the candidate's experience, requirements, and business needs, we reserve the right to consider candidates at any level for which this position has been advertised.

  • Typically requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in engineering and may be expected to have a related master's degree and normally possess 10 -15 years of related experience.
  • Requires demonstrated leadership skills as evidenced by prior Project Management or supervisory experience of high-performance teams.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to coordinate support from a wide range of technical disciplines, management teams and customers.
  • Requires the ability to interpret and manage complex contract requirements with multiple customers.
  • Experience in Systems Engineering and Integration in an aerospace environment.
  • Demonstrated desire for the continuous improvement of processes and capabilities.
  • Experience in leading mishap investigations, non-conformances and corrective and preventive actions with demonstrated understanding of Root Cause Analysis methods.

Desired Qualifications: 

  • BS degree in engineering from an accredited engineering school and a minimum of fourteen (12) years of direct engineering experience, or a MS degree from an accredited engineering school and twelve (10) years of direct engineering experience, or Ph.D. degrees and nine (7) years direct engineering experience.
  • Project Management experience
  • In-depth understanding of SAE AS9100D principles and the execution of internal and external audits.
  • Experience in the focused application of quality requirements for procurements of space flight, machined and hazardous components with an excellent understanding of supply chain management.
  • Familiarity with the development and delivery of aerospace flight systems safety products.
  • Experience in the Configuration Management of delivered products.
  • Knowledge of requirements and processes for the certification and acceptance of hardware and software for space flight.

Work Environment

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).

Equipment and Machines

Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).

Attendance

Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
