Job Purpose
- Overall general management responsibility and complete accountability for the operational and budget performance of their assigned areas.
- Directly manage the Relay and Meter & Test Group employees and activities for this area.
- Implement and monitor all company policies, procedures, standards, and labor agreements assigned to this area of responsibility.
- Coordinate training for assigned area of responsibility.
Key Accountabilities
- Manage and meet budgets for assigned areas of responsibility.
- Manage and monitor the work of the department maintaining National Grid core values of safety, efficiency, responsibility and service.
- Ensure that maintenance programs are completed to regulatory and company standards, including required documentation using approved databases and applications.
- Performs and documents all mandated NPCC and NERC reliability maintenance of the protection and metering systems.
- Interact with Protection Engineering, Substation Engineering, DC&I, and Metering Engineering to ensure all required standards and operating procedures are adhered to.
- Ensure all system operations are reviewed in order to determine the correct operation of system protection.
- Develop and implement appropriate responses to all system conditions including equipment failures, outages and storms.
- Manage all field investigations of system disturbances and ensure that all follow-up actions are executed in an appropriate time frame.
- Review plans and make recommendations and/or propose operational limitations to ensure the integrity of the electric power system.
- Provide technical support to Regional and Transmission Control Centers.
- Ensure that project drawings and documentation are reviewed and the necessary feedback is provided to ensure that all projects will result in the highest quality.
- Develop project grade estimates for testing and commissioning of relay and metering systems and associated equipment.
- Develop, review and manage construction project plans including milestones, construction sequence and cut-over plans.
- Ensure that all test procedures are designed to meet system standards, uncover any defects in engineering or construction while keeping the risk of misoperation or inadvertent trips to an absolute minimum.
- Employee recruitment, selection, training and development.
- Manage employee performance for safety, quality, and efficiency environmental and ethical compliance.
- Continuously look for opportunities to improve the department’s safety record, processes, level of customer service and operational efficiency.
Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required
- A demonstrated commitment to safety.
- Exceptional leadership and customer service skills. Must be self-motivated and possess sound decision-making ability.
- Demonstrated they are flexible and works well in team environment. Ability to build effective working relationships with a variety of employees throughout the company.
- Ability to work off-hours and on-call and travel for system emergencies.
- Must possess strong team building skills, with the ability to lead and motivate employees, and a willingness to champion organizational change.
- Must have strong knowledge of union contracts and ability to build and develop strong union relationships.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent combination of a degree and experience.
- Ten years of experience in System Protection and Control or Advanced Metering with a thorough knowledge of both theory and application.
- Strong knowledge of National Grid policies, procedures, standards, and labor agreements.
- A high level of analytical, coaching and intervention skills and the ability to use creative problem solving techniques in a team environment.
- Strong Oral and Written communications skills.

Salary
$150,000 - $170,000 a year
This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills.
