Summary of Position:

The Production Engineering Manager position is responsible for leading a team of engineers, technicians, and assistants to provide technical designs for production design, artificial lift optimization and associated operations for all wells in the DJ Basin. This role is critical in connecting the engineering teams with the field operations from the planning through the execution phases of the operations. This position is also responsible for handling relatively complex petroleum engineering assignments, optimizing production rates and project management for the assigned region.



Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for planning, designing, and overseeing execution of production facilities, artificial lift, and infrastructure for the drilling well program.
  • Supervise and mentor a team of production engineers, technicians, and support staff, ensuring a high level of performance and development.
  • Leads engagement with planning team, D&C group, production operations, facilities team and midstream team to ensure successful execution of drill schedule and production volumes.
  • Acts as technical lead for new facility/plant needs, options and alternatives review, selection of plant size and design, negotiation and contracting of plant purchase and plant installation and management of plant installation.
  • Key culture carrier between office engineers and production operations supervision and operators – drives connections between engineers and field staff.
  • Works closely with Production Operations management and Facilities management to build relationships, review designs, and establish efficient operations.
  • Drives conversations about improvements to facilities and downhole designs to create operator-friendly designs.
  • Responsible for remedial and recompletion procedures.
  • Works with land, geology, drilling and production in the development of new areas.
  • Responsible for monitoring production of all existing PDP production. Work with OCC and technicians to develop tools that make monitoring simple and effective.
  • Responsible for LOE economics and driving down costs, working closely with Prod Ops leadership and Finance team to monitor and manage spend across the field.
  • Accountable for well review meetings with field personnel to discuss and remedy well production problems.
  • Reviews downtime and production optimization – teaches and oversees other engineers in optimizing base production.
  • Provides technical input on production, completion, and facilities engineering practices.
  • Constructs AFE’s as needed. Ensures accurate economic backup and justification calculations for AFE submittals.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including maintenance, health and safety, and logistics, to ensure seamless production operations.
  • Oversee the planning, execution, and completion of production projects, ensuring they are delivered on time and within scope.
  • Generate regular reports on production performance, key performance indicators, and project status for senior management.
  • Is a leader in safe operating practices and ensures compliance with CIVI Environment, Safety & Regulatory requirements.
  • Assure all work performed adheres to CIVI standards.
  • Perform all other duties and projects as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:


  • Organizes and oversees the schedules, work, and productivity of the team.
  • Manages their departments efficiently and in accordance with departmental goals.
  • In accordance with policy and with the support of the department head, makes hiring and selection decisions for staffing.
  • Provides performance feedback and completes evaluations that are timely and constructive.
  • With the assistance of HR and the department head, handles discipline and termination of employees as needed and in accordance with company policy.


Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in Production Engineering with at least 3 years in a management position.
  • Proficient in all aspects of Microsoft Office 365 products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • In-depth understanding of safety regulations and environmental compliance.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Professional Engineer license) a plus.


Travel Requirements:

  • Work is performed at a CIVI location Tues-Thurs with an option to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays.
  • Schedule: traditional 40-hour workweek or alternative schedule of 9 hour works days M-Thurs and 4-hour workdays Friday.
  • Travel will be required to field locations; expectation is a field visit (both remote office and producing location) monthly, with bi-monthly visits expected to support culture development and building rapport.
