- Plan, schedule, and coordinate production and research testing, setup, and execution.
- Manage changing production testing timelines with Project Managers and Production Management. Ensure that testing is conducted safely, in accordance with all Robinson standards and applicable customer specifications, on time and within budget. Ensure all documentation and checklists are complete and properly stored for all testing.
- Responsible for the daily management of the lab. Create daily work plan and coordinate with external resources as needed to support testing (rentals, field service technicians, tools, materials) and calibration of all lab equipment.
- Responsible for supervising lab technicians including coaching, setting goals for development, monitoring skills matrix for lab technicians, improving technician engagement, approving work schedules/vacation, and monitoring performance. Support the needs of the lab technicians to ensure that they are successful.
- Coordinate with the Lab Engineer to ensure test setups, test drawings, test calculations and reporting of test results are on time and meet quality requirements.
- Measure and review lab performance against project budgets and on time performance. Evaluate metrics and implement countermeasures to address identified or specified gaps to objectives.
- Create lab enhancement goals and objectives for the selection, purchase and maintenance of lab measurement equipment, software, and instrumentation.
- Coordinate shop impact testing with our production facilities; Work in coordination with Lab and Design Engineering to ensure timely completion of reports and approval; Develop goals and objectives for continual improvement of impact testing processes and visualization.
- Evaluate applicable testing specifications from industry, government, and customers. Confirm testing is conducted in compliance with applicable standards.
- Responsible for developing, maintaining, and improving lab work instructions, forms, and standards.
- Identify needs and work to obtain required approvals or capital requests for maintaining and/or updating lab capabilities including lab facilities. Collaborating with Lab and R&D Engineer to identify third party software or hardware that may be required to support lab objectives.
- Lead and participate in continual improvement of lab processes. Coach continual improvement and problem solving.
- Collaborate with Lab Engineer to support Robinson estimating in evaluating customer specifications and Robinson’s ability to meet requirements set forth by customer requirements.
- Collaborate with Project Management and Quality Assurance in hosting customer witness testing of production units.
- Ensure Robinson Lab processes and procedures comply with Robinson ISO policies and procedures.
- Responsible for coordinating testing and compliance with fan efficiency regulation compliance.
- Coordinate with engineering, sales and estimating regarding requirements to quote, label and sell equipment into applications that require fan efficiency compliance.
- Coordinate with sales and engineering regarding data required for submittal to regulatory databases prior to equipment quotation/sale.
- Maintain updated regulatory standards and disseminate information and regulatory updates to affected parties.
- Collaborate and network with industry peers and government agencies regarding product regulation requirements. Keep Robinson leadership updated on potential changes.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering (BSME or MET) is preferred.
- Five years of leading a team of individuals in a technical or testing environment. Experience with testing and coordinating with a production team is preferred.
- Willing to travel as required, including domestic and foreign as needed. Less than 10%.
- Experience with ERP systems and engineering software required.
- Vibration analysis equipment, 3D CAD and FEA/FEM software (Ansys) experience preferred.
