Job description

Duties & Responsibilities
1. Manages staff. Provides guidance, training and motivation as necessary to develop staff. Hires, evaluates and counsels crew. Follows corporate disciplinary procedures per established Vanguard standards as required. Sets performance standards, reviews performance, provides feedback, and recommends wage increases in accordance with all applicable Human Resources policies and procedures.
2. Oversees the daily operations of the team, including managing support capacity, client/book of business issues, and relevant regulatory and compliance requirements. Evaluates the feasibility of new business models, products or enhancements and presents proposals to senior management with a recommended course of action.
3. Partners with the team to define, manage, and refine (as needed) the book of business strategies. Assesses the internal and external landscape to update the book of business strategies for the department and client base (i.e. service enhancements, growth strategies, and pricing changes).
4. Participates as a key contributor in implementing business plan objectives. Serves as the central point of contact and face of Vanguard as it pertains to mutual fund investment offerings and services.
5. Partners with key business contacts within the division and across the enterprise to identify and resolve issues. Proactively builds relationships to ensure support for clients' needs. Communicates regularly with key business partners in legal, compliance, risk, marketing, procurement, IIG, and FAS to ensure effective delivery of products/services within regulatory guidelines.
6. Develops recommendations and complete action plans related to book strategies and general process improvements based on accurate and timely metrics and financial analysis. Communicates findings and technical concepts to collaborators with appropriate service recommendations or modifications.
7. Understands the needs and expectations of internal and external clients and ensures that the staff are trained to meet their needs. Maintains an appropriate level of Vanguard and industry knowledge; keeping current on Vanguard and outside fund policies and objectives; continuing to expand knowledge of the business and mutual fund industry; keeping current on the competition, including types and levels of services offered. Review client satisfaction survey results and competitive measures.
8. Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience required. Graduate degree preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years general experience and 5 years industry. Supervisory or management experience preferred.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and proven ability to develop staff.
  • Ability to work effectively with various levels of management and across business lines.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience in client-facing position preferred.
  • Understanding of operational environment preferred.
  • Experience with relevant systems/applications preferred.
