Overview
The Manager of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion is a key member of the Firm's Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Department and is responsible for leading and managing DEI programs in support of the Firm's broader DEI strategy.
This position will help to advance the Firm's overarching DEI strategy through developing, refining, and executing initiatives intended to support the recruitment, retention and advancement of attorneys and business services professional regardless of background but with particular focus on individuals from backgrounds historically underrepresented in our industry and Firm.
The ideal candidate will cherish the challenge of curating and cultivating ideas and carrying them through to completion.
The position will report to the Director of DEI and work closely with the Chief DEI Officer and DEI Manager (UK), overseeing four of the team's NY-based DEI professionals.
Key Relationships
• DEI Team (Chief DEI Officer, Director of DEI, DEI Manager (UK), DEI Specialists (2), DEI Coordinator, DEI Assistant)
• DEI and Women's Initiative Committee Partners
• Affinity Group Members and Leaders
• Talent Teams (including People Resources, Recruitment, Professional Development, and Talent Management)
• External DEI Consultants and DEI-Focused Organizations
Responsibilities
• Collaborate in defining and executing DEI programs and engagement initiatives in support of the Firm's overarching DEI strategy and goals which support its people, processes and a sense of place and belonging. This includes our learning & professional development programs, affinity group and heritage month programming, recruiting, onboarding and talent pipeline programs, performance tracking activities, recognition and feedback initiatives, etc.
• Manage and mentor direct reports, providing guidance and support on projects and initiatives.
• Manage the DEI budget to ensure resources are allocated effectively to support DEI initiatives.
• Analyze data, metrics, and qualitative information to track progress towards DEI goals and support the embedding of DEI principles into Recruitment, Professional Development, Recruiting, Marketing and Business Development processes and practices, as part of an overall continuous improvement approach.
• Foster inclusion and belonging through management of the Firm's globally and local affinity groups, providing guidance on programming and best practices for maximizing impact, facilitating information sharing and collaboration between groups, and supporting development of new groups and inclusion initiatives.
• Collaborate with the PR and Communications team to deliver DEI communications across internal and external channels, including key talking points for DEI programs and initiatives.
• Refine and execute existing mentoring and coaching program focused on attorneys from underrepresented backgrounds, as well as develop and deploy new and/or scaled-up development programs for employees from underrepresented backgrounds.
• Manage the development, design, and implementation of DEI focused-learning programs for deployment across all roles and offices, as part of the firm's global DEI Learning Initiative.
• Support DEI Specialist in responding to client diversity RFPs, industry benchmarking surveys, and other external and internal diversity data requests.
• Support DEI Director and Specialist in management of firm participation in the Mansfield Certification Program, ensuring compliance with requirements, tracking progress, and leveraging best practices.
• Contribute to processes and tools for ensuring all written material is error-free and adheres to firm and team style and brand.
• Provide guidance and support for thought leadership, blogs, and social media as needed.
• Manage external vendors as needed to deliver on program activities and collateral.
• The employee may be asked to perform additional duties not listed in the job description as required by business needs.
Pay $140K- $155K DOE
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree; experience in a large law firm a plus.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Minimum of five years of progressive experience administering or managing DEI or professional development programs and related communications.
  • Experience managing and mentoring people, helping them to grow and develop.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to multitask and prioritize work efficiently and effectively.
