The Corporate Materials Engineering department located in Sidney, Ohio is the central resource supporting Emerson's varied and global business units. It is comprised of metallurgy, chemistry, and polymer engineering functions. We are seeking an individual to manage the Metallurgical Engineering section of the laboratory. For this challenging position, it is required that the candidate has a good balance of leadership and technical skill-sets. The fully staffed laboratory has state-of-the-art analysis and testing equipment. Two other international Emerson Materials Engineering laboratories have dotted-line reporting to the Sidney, Ohio laboratory.

As a Manager, Metallurgical Engineering, YOU WILL:
  • Lead a department that consists of technicians, engineers and scientists relative to setting priorities, monitoring the expense and capital budgets, supplying technical guidance and giving performance reviews.
  • Support the needs of a broad internal customer-base, including production plants, product engineering, suppliers and R&D.
  • Lead projects relating to discovery and implementation of new and innovative materials and processes
  • Other technical responsibilities include: Product Failure Analysis, Process Troubleshooting, Materials and Process Selection, Supplier Qualification and New Technology Assessment.
  • Participate in the laboratory safety committee and in the development and training of direct reports.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCES & SKILLS:
  • BS in Metallurgical or Materials Engineering from an accredited university or college
  • 7 years minimum experience of combined leadership and technical contribution relative to the requirements herein.
  • Proven leadership track record for both people and projects.
  • Experience in at least five of the following disciplines: Cast iron properties, multiple heat treating processes, aluminum die casting, casting process control/troubleshooting, metal matrix composites, engineered ceramics, failure analysis, additive manufacturing (metal), tribology, metal surface treatments for wear and corrosion protection, NDT methods, solidification modeling and familiarity with various metal joining technologies.

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCES & SKILLS:
  • MS or PhD in Metallurgical or Materials Engineering from an accredited university or college
  • 10 years minimum experience of combined leadership and technical contribution relative to the requirements herein.
  • Previous HVAC&R (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration) experience
  • Modeling methodologies relating to materials engineering (materials and process selection, data analytics, predictive wear or corrosion rates, etc.)

Flexible Work Schedule - Remote Work Option and Core Hours

This role has the flexibility of a remote work option up to three days a week and a core hour schedule. You can choose to flex your start and stop times given you are working during the core hours of 9:00am - 3:00pm.
