Job Description:
The Nursing Assistant Training Program at IIMN provides free, high-quality training to New Americans. The Nurse Instructor teaches the content and skills, both in person and online, for New Americans.
Organization Description:
The International Institute of Minnesota is a dynamic organization that provides services to maximize the talents and opportunities New Americans bring to our state. The Institute assists low-income New Americans in their transition to a new homeland by providing comprehensive services for successful integration. The Institute serves more than 4,000 New Americans annually with new arrival social services to employment placement and advancement through to U.S. Citizenship attainment. Programs are divided into three primary areas: Refugee Services, Education and Employment Training Services, and Immigration Services. The Institute also provides advocacy for policy reforms and supports systems change that improve opportunities for New Americans to move their lives forward.
Requirements:
RN currently licensed in Minnesota with a minimum of two years of nursing experience (LPN or RN)
Preferred one year experience work experience in a long-term care facility.
Preferred Experience/Qualifications:
Experience teaching and communicating with adults from other nations, cultures and ethnic groups.
Demonstrates a high level of interpersonal skills, including individual and group communication, team building skills, flexibility, and problem solving.
Demonstrates knowledge of current state and federal regulations applying to training and registration of nursing assistants.
Understands and supports the goals and mission of the International Institute.
Understands and respects the trauma and loss experienced by refugees and asylees and shows sensitivity to the mental health and stress issues that may surface in the classroom, lab and clinical settings.
Provides appropriate interactive instruction to English Language Learners.
Knowledgeable with Microsoft Office and Google classroom.
Duties
Directly responsible for classroom and skill instruction.
Improve and develop curriculum, learning materials and class work to increase student success.
Evaluates students’ progress and maintains student records.
Provides 1-on-1 tutoring as needed for students preparing for the state examination.
Stay current with changes to testing and laws related to NA registry in Minnesota.
Models professional work habits for students.
Respects student confidentiality and promotes self-sufficiency for students.
Collaborate and communicate with your co teacher.
Attend a mandatory train-the-trainer class after hire.
Maintain supplies and inventory in skills lab and classroom, includes laundry.
Attend all staff meetings.
Train and orient new RN Instructors/NAR staff.
Other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands:
Use of manual dexterity, tactile, visual, and audio acuity
Use of repetitive motion, prolonged periods of sitting, and sustained visual and mental applications and demands.
Occasional lifting (up to 25 pounds), bending, pulling, and carrying.
