ABOUT THE POSITION
The Medical Director will represent Global Medical Affairs as therapeutic area expert and provide clinical/scientific leadership and support for Aurion Biotech products in various stages of clinical development. They will assist the medical affairs team with site on boarding activities including training in collaboration with the clinical operation team. This individual’s responsibilities will include strategic and tactical planning of Aurion Biotech’s clinical site support program and will serve as a point of contact for internal site launch experience.
Reporting to the Vice President of Global Clinical & Medical Affairs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead and execute on KOL engagement plan across all geographies.
- Organize publication, medical information, and communication strategies in alignment with company’s strategy.
- Develop and implement internal and external training curriculum, plans and procedures.
- Serve as primary medical point of contact for future field medical team.
- Collaborate in the development of training materials for clinical trial sites and provide training for both external and internal stakeholders.
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with KOLs for and on behalf of Aurion Biotech in all relevant therapeutic areas to establish and promote the company’s reputation, dedication to patients and expertise.
- Liaise with Medical Advisory Board members regarding strategic output and priorities.
- Lead trainings as subject matter expert on disease states and Aurion Biotech’s product candidates.
- Maintain strong relationships with industry thought leaders to identify new medical opportunities for existing or new corporate products and to pursue new indications.
- Maintain expert knowledge and understanding of clinical, scientific, and technical information in ophthalmology through continuous literature reviews and serve as an expert resource to internal colleagues.
- Collaborate with the health economics and market access teams to develop clinical/financial value propositions for the company’s technologies.
- Lead interactions with academic thought leaders, investigators, cooperative groups, and other clinical stakeholders.
- Provide clinical support and work with other members of the management team to develop and communicate the overall corporate strategy.
- Travel requirements of approximately 40%.
QUALIFICATION AND EDUCATION
- Advanced degree: Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Medical Doctor (MD, DO), Doctor of Optometry (OD), or equivalent.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in a pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or healthcare organization in medical affairs.
- Ability to understand and deliver critical capabilities of medical affairs organization: clinical research, evidence generation, value demonstration, medical communication, medical information, publication activities, congress presentations, interaction with Medical Science Liaison (MSL) networks, compliance, and public speaking.
- Global medical affairs expertise with demonstrated strong ability for collaboration and team leadership; experience leading and working with cross-cultural teams and industry thought leaders.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional teams, to lead and develop a high-performing team and to mentor team members at all levels.
- Successful oversight of and involvement in all phases of clinical and commercial development
- Proven ability to thrive in a collaborative, cross-functional and dynamic environment while achieving company objectives.
- Excellent written, communication and interpersonal skills, and demonstrated cultural agility.

COMPENSATION
Compensation for this role includes a pay range of $177,000 - $292,000 (determined by job related knowledge, skills, and experience), plus equity, and a bonus based on company and individual performance. We offer generous benefits including:
