Locally, since 2018, SMP Alabama has been producing modules and polymer products for Mercedes Benz US International (MBUSI) in our state-of-the-art facilities. Parts we produce include:

Materials Manager - Service Parts
The ideal candidate should have the following attributes and/or skills:
- Bachelor in Industrial Engineering, Economics, Business Administration or relevant work experience
- 5+ years’ experience in manufacturing, production planning and material management preferred.
- Previous experience in an automotive materials group
- Previous management experience
- Expertise in use of MRP system
- SAP
- OEM supply concepts
- Methods and tools for controlling the material flows (Kanban, EDI, ERP systems)
- Comprehensive technical knowledge of purchasing and sales
- Personnel management
- Proficient in English
Main Duties
- EDI: Manages staff to perform day to day functions of validating EDI releases: including review for data integrity, investigate and resolve any discrepancies including; bills of material, item master and part set up and validation.
- Material Releasing: Oversees material ordering releasing, MRP, Supply Web, corporate purchasing interface and advancing receiving of materials. Oversees by Deliveries Due report inbound material activities. Monitor reports and communicates with staff to insure sufficient materials are available to production and ensure inbound raw materials and outbound shipping schedule are maintained.
- Production Scheduling: Oversees production schedules, balance out parts and cum reconciliation. Understands fundamentals of scheduling system and uses reports to manage processes that affect production. Monitor reports and communicates with staff to insure production in met and shipping schedules are maintained.
- Inventory Management: Insure cycle counts and inventory accuracy is up to date and reflected in automated system. Insist staff is accountable to accuracy and resolves discrepancies. Evaluate and report significant inventory variance, identify root cause and corrective action for inventory discrepancies.
- Warehouse Management: Manage warehouse to insure utilization of space and material flow is efficient for the facility. Manage and monitor maintenance of storage and holding areas to ensure product is secure and properly identified. Manage and maintain accurate location listings and communicate to staff.
- Transportation: Manage enforcement of methods and policies ensuring the most efficient and economical transport of all materials in and out of the plant per established routings, frequencies and modes.
- Utilize and Communicate Established Processes: Enforce utilization of Quality and MPL procedures to increase efficiency and effect change through work instructions, records and training.
- Customer Delivery Ratings: Monitor Customer Websites for delivery ratings, changes in processes which affect shipping and or production. Enforce best practices for prevention of delivery errors.
- Premium Freight: Utilize the systems application for reporting premium freight to manage amount used in a given period. Enforce best practices for prevention of premium freight occurrences.
- Manage On-Time Delivery: Manage with proactive methods utilizing management reports and good communication to invoke actions to eliminate delays. Manage adherence to production and shipping schedules using tools provided.
- Contingency Planning: Manage and communicate contingency plans for work flow changes as necessary on an on-going basis for prevention plan for timing issues.
- Communicate all changes to staff members to ensure engagement and comprehension.
- Budget: Participates in annual budget forecasts. Reports costs for material and labor within Material Group to Plant Manager as necessary.
- Processes and Measurements: Oversees prompt shipment schedules to ensure customer requirements are met using resources/tool available, developing assessments and metrics for on-going performance.
- Capacity Planning: Analyze future customer demand to identify manpower, tooling and equipment needs. Provide information for capacity planning.
- Supervises subordinates in essential functions, and ensure departmental compliance of all company policies / procedures and customer mandates.
- Audits subordinates and their work areas to ensure employee safety and housekeeping.
- Acts as a catalyst for continuous improvement of all materials systems processes and procedures.
