About this opportunity:
The Laboratory Manager leads Laboratory resources to ensure the quality, integrity, continuity, and proper dispersion of analytical data generated by the laboratory personnel.

What you'll do:
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement and ownership in all aspects Laboratory operation, including safety, accuracy, and efficiency.
- Develop and maintain training programs to assure initial competency and ongoing proficiency for laboratory technicians. Coach, develop, and train staff, recognizing their expertise and contribution to the work of the Laboratory and overall Refinery. Ensure talent management and workforce planning activities are aligned with current strategies.
- Build and maintain relationships with the Union Executive Board, Laboratory representatives, and HR Labor Relations Specialist to foster a one-team approach to problem solving and dispute resolution to advance safe and efficient Laboratory operation.
- Provide leadership and direction to the Laboratory, establishing strategic direction and ensuring reliable and efficient laboratory operations.
- Develop and manage annual budgets that support the provision of adequate operational and capital expenditures to achieve the Laboratory's objectives.
- Ensure overall safe operation of the laboratory, which includes the Laboratory Safety and Chemical Hygiene Program. Ensure understanding and compliance with safety rules. Seek & act on feedback from technicians and safety support personnel to continuously improve process and occupational safety in the lab.
- Liaison between Lab, and internal and external customers, effectively meeting customer needs and building productive relationships.
- Serve as administrator for the laboratory information system and data acquisition software.
- Interface and collaborate with other Cenovus Laboratory managers as part of the Lab Network. Sharing & implementing best practices, Lead and/or Participate in internal lab peer reviews and audits via the Lab Manager Network.
Who you are:
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
- Previous Management Experience
- Ten or more years of experience in a petroleum refinery laboratory
- Five or more years of experience with EPA Wastewater Compliance Testing programs
- Hands-on experience with instrumentation, test material, wet test methods and ASTM testing processes.
- Three or more years managing Quality Assurance/Quality Control processes and procedures in a refinery lab.
