Employee Relations Manager with Mercy - Cedar Rapids

In this position, you will:

    • Manage Employee Relations, unemployment, and reasonable accommodation requests and oversee reception desk services to ensure appropriate staff coverage and exceptional customer service at all times. 
    • Promote a positive work environment by developing and implementing Employee Relations programs, serving as a resource for employees to voice their concerns and coaching employees in conflict resolution.
    • Partner with leaders and employees to improve work relationships, build morale and increase employee productivity and retention.
    • Collaborate with, and advise leaders on performance coaching, performance improvement plans, corrective action and communications, recommend appropriate corrective action steps and participate in such discussions. Consult with Director, Human Resources and legal counsel as needed. 
    • Lead internal investigations on a variety of employee and managerial complaints, recommend solutions, prepare written summary reports and assist with facilitation of resolution while maintaining the highest degree of confidentiality.
    • Promote retention and engagement by providing training to leaders, track, analyze and report on key Employee Relations' themes and trends, and use data (e.g. exit and new hire survey) to help develop proactive strategies, solutions, programs and policies.
    • Develop, recommend, implement and evaluate human resources policies and procedures. Review and approve content of weekly newsletter and prepare and maintain employee handbook.
    • Support accreditation and regulatory requirements by preparing for and participating in audits/surveys.
    • Comply with and administer Human Resources-related local, state, and federal employment laws, regulations, and accreditation standards.
    • Assist in the planning and coordination of employee events and special projects as needed to achieve HR and organizational strategic initiatives.
    • Follow Mercy's safety guidelines, carry out job- specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly report any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents and injuries.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • Thrives in a fast-paced environment demonstrating strong consultation skills.
    • Must be a strategic critical thinker with experience managing investigations, coaching and advising on complex matters with exceptional communication (written and verbal), analytical and collaboration skills.
    • Knowledge of effective human resources practices and employment and labor law required.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel. Advanced computer skills required.
    • Role models exemplary customer service skills and creates a welcoming environment for all employees.

Professional Experience

    • Five years of human resources or related experience required.
    • Employee relations or related experience required.
    • Previous supervisory and healthcare experience preferred.

Education

    • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management or related field required.
    • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration or related field preferred.

Licensure, Certification, Registration

  • Human Resources certification preferred.

Physical Demand Requirements

  • Light: Exert up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently.
