This Manager role will be a member of the Global Accounting Policy & Advisory (GAPA) group within Global Controllership at American Express Company (the Company). GAPA's primary roles include:
  • Designing, establishing, and communicating the Company's accounting policies
  • Staying on the leading front of emerging accounting (US GAAP/IFRS) and evaluating the impact of the emerging accounting requirements
  • Providing accounting guidance to the Company's broader Global Controllership organization on new products and transactions
  • Providing accounting advisory services and thought leadership for M&A transactions
  • Interacting with the Company's internal and external auditors
  • Providing training on accounting topics to the broader Finance Organization

Over time, this role will likely be exposed to various opportunities within GAPA based on the varying business needs. This position offers excellent exposure to a diverse and talented team of controllership professionals who support a broad array of American Express businesses and products.
How will you make an impact in this role?
  • Collaborate across the Finance organization to identify, develop and communicate additions or updates to Global Accounting policies
  • Participate in monitoring, evaluating, and communicating the impacts of emerging accounting standards and requirements from the FASB, IASB, SEC and other regulatory entities throughout the organization
  • Leverage accounting research skills and critical thinking mindset to assist in providing accounting guidance and Advisory services
  • Assist in developing and delivering training across the Company
  • Ensure controls & compliance with prevailing policies & procedures (e.g., Sarbanes Oxley)
  • Ensure that all timelines are continually met and adequate controls are maintained over the processes to ensure integrity of the information
  • Ability to work with colleagues across multiple time zones

Minimum Qualifications
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP/IFRS (4+ Years of Accounting knowledge)
  • Awareness of Financial Reporting
  • Ability to connect accounting & reporting
  • Understanding of SOX & other related control framework compliance
  • Ability to research & embed relevant accounting standard methodologies
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Project management skills with the capability to prioritize multiple demands
  • Ability to work as part of a team in a consultative environment, as well as work independently on individual projects

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree, CPA a plus
  • Professional Accounting experience (3-5 years), experience with accounting firm a plus

Qualifications
Salary Range: $86,500.00 to $129,800.00 annually + bonus + benefits
