Senior Finance Accounting Policy Manager - Controller

Overview: Leads a unit within the Controller department of Finance, e.g. Accounting Policy or Corporate Reporting. Manages operations related to financial information and may have responsibility for regulatory reporting.Primary Responsibilities: Design, develop, and communicate corporate accounting policies.Makes recommendations and decisions to business line and operations' managers regarding accounting policies and interpretations thereof.Review and analyze significant, complex business transactions to determine the proper accounting and reporting.Apply US GAAP to transactions and document accounting analyses and conclusions.Research technical accounting issues. Interpret and implement of new technical accounting standards that affect department and the bank's financial status.Lead implementation of new accounting and regulatory standards.Manages the operations for various monthly and quarterly processes. Applies comprehensive knowledge to decisions on these processes.Exercise usual authority of a manager concerning staffing, performance appraisals, promotions, salary recommendations, performance management and terminations.Understand and adhere to the Company's risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company's Risk Appetite. Design, implement, maintain and enhance internal controls to mitigate risk on an ongoing basis. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.Complete other related duties as assigned.Supervisory/ Managerial Responsibilities: Manages subordinate managers. Full supervisory, development of team through professional leadership. Possess ability to direct/persuade/influence across division and peers throughout the bank.Education and Experience Required: Bachelor's degree and a minimum 9 years' experience in Finance, Business or a related field with 3 years' managerial experience or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 13 years' higher education and/or work experience with 3 years' managerial experienceCPACPA experience in financial planning and analysis, accounting, strategic planning with financial services industryStrong organization skills with emphasis placed on detail and the ability to work effectively under time constraintsStrong analytical ability and creative problem-solving skills, including knowledge and application of GAAPDemonstrated accuracy and timelinessDemonstrated team work leadershipExcellent communication skills, both written and verbalIn-depth knowledge of the banking industry and related GAAP principlesStrong interpersonal skills and maturity to build relationships and interact from a business as well as a technical standpointEducation and Experience Preferred: Advanced degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration#LI-RS1M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees.
