Manager, Coaching and Technical Experts
The National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) is the top professional women's soccer league in the USA, with 14 teams and 300+ of the best soccer players globally. In its 11th season, the league continues to grow exponentially as the #1 highest momentum sports league, with our average game attendance up by 48%, viewership up by 21% (regular season total viewers), while our social presence soars to a 233% increase on video views across major platforms. In November 2023, the NWSL made history in announcing a 4-year deal as the biggest deal in women's professional sports with 4 new broadcast partners for the 2024 season: Amazon Prime Video, CBS, ESPN and Scripps/Ion and are creating a new Direct-To-Consumer platform.
Position Description
The Sporting Department of the National Women's Soccer Leaue was established in January of 2023, with the broad goal of making the NWSL the best league in the world. To continue the buildout of the department, we are looking for a strategic thinker with a keen knowledge of soccer, specifically from a technical standpoint. This person will provide operational, strategic, and administrative support to the Chief Sporting Director on all topics related to Coaching and Technical staffing. The ideal candidate will have the ability to exercise sound judgement, possess strong written and verbal communication skills, be detail-oriented, and will have outstanding organizational skills. This person will report directly to the Chief Sporting Director to oversee all matters related to technical staff of NWSL clubs.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Assist the Chief Sporting Director in establishing guidance on league-wide technical staffing topics, club structures, staffing requirements, education and experience.
  • Develop procedures, policies, and programs to identify, attract, retain, and develop the world's best coaches and Technical staff, including more female coaches and pathways for minority coaches.
  • Monitor and update a database for staff hiring, including identifying future candidates for technical/sporting directors and coaches.
  • Monitor league coach licensing and staffing policies and procedures.
  • Develop and ensure a method of compliance for NWSL clubs with league rules.
  • Serve as the staff liaison to the league's technical/sporting directors and head coaches, coaches' staff, and advice on coaching requirements.
  • Create a league-wide multi-year coach licensing footprint.
  • Develop and administer an NWSL Coaching education, know-how sharing and mentoring program.
  • Lead and create content for the monthly Head Coaches Call
  • Develop and maintain a strong relationship with the senior management of coaching education at US Soccer, CONCACAF, and UEFA
  • Continue to develop the coaching culture of the NWSL.
  • Represent the NWSL at key meetings and events.
  • Provide appropriate administrative support to the Chief Sporting Director to ensure efficient operation of the department.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required.
  • 5+ years of experience as a Sporting/Technical director or equivalent in a high-level, club, collegiate, or professional sporting organization
  • USSF or UEFA A Coaching License or higher
  • Strong knowledge of soccer coaching landscape, including licensing from US Soccer
  • Excellent understanding of the women's soccer landscape, including the rules and regulations in the US
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with relevant parties, including senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to deliver high quality work and execute under pressure/deadlines.
  • Ability to develop a strategic plan and translate it into a set of deliverables.
  • Able and willing to work non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Salary: Estimate $75K-115K - Bonus eligible based on performance.
