At Sun Life, our Purpose is to help our Clients achieve lifetime financial security and live healthier lives. Our focus on sustainability helps us bring this Purpose to life and is central to our business strategy.

This role reports directly to the Director of Climate and Nature Risk and will have responsibility in supporting the integration of Climate and Nature related risks into Sun Life’s approach to Enterprise Risk Management. How you will contribute:

  • Ensure the successful implementation of the Climate Risk team’s strategy, responsibilities, and deliverables.
  • Input into relevant regulatory consultations and external disclosures relating to Climate and Nature e.g, OSFI B-15 guideline, ISSB, TNFD.
  • Support the program management of funded academic research and Nature-based solution projects.
  • Contribute to reports for senior management to inform, recommend, and/or for decision making.
  • Contribute to Sun Life’s thought leadership and advocacy for climate change and Nature positivity by tracking global trends and regulatory developments relating to climate risk and biodiversity.
  • Represent Sun Life in industry working groups, and external multi-stakeholder initiatives.
  • Create and provide support of enterprise-wide Climate and Nature communication materials, including internal communications and external publications and reports.
  • Support the team with evolving Climate and Nature-related deliverables and projects as required.

Nature specific:

  • Contribute to the planning, design and implementation of Sun Life’s nature strategy through internal education and engagement across the business to socialize the concepts related to biodiversity risks and opportunities.
  • Build a network of champions across the organization to participate in advancing Sun Life’s nature agenda.
  • Support the enterprise-wide assessment of Sun Life's biodiversity activities as related to the TNFD framework.
  • Create and maintain qualitative and quantitative datasets to inform the analysis of nature dependencies and impacts, and the development of a science-based TNFD disclosure.
  • Engage and drive working group sessions with key stakeholders across the enterprise to integrate Nature Risks and opportunities into existing business practices.
  • Contribute to the future implementation of TNFD led metrics and science-based targets.

What you will bring with you:

  • University degree or relevant experience
  • A minimum of 5 years of related experience in a sustainability related field
  • Expertise in biodiversity and an understanding of the TNFD framework.
  • Expertise in climate change and an understanding of the TCFD framework.
  • Passion to make a difference to people’s health, nature and the climate.
  • Adaptable and intellectually curious
  • Experience of developing climate change risk and Nature strategies and disclosures, for financial services institutions a plus.
  • Proven track record for planning, executing, governing and implementing project activities, with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated strong problem-solving skills and a commitment to continuous learning and improvement.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills to engage with stakeholders across all levels of an organization.
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to handle multiple priorities and tight deadlines, both independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and networks and achieve outcomes through influence and collaboration.
