SUMMARY: The Care Services Manager interacts directly with people living with ALS, their families, and their caregivers with a goal of enhancing quality of life by providing information about Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), coordinating services, and facilitating access to necessary resources. This position also holds primary responsibility for operating the state's durable medical equipment program in coordination with local vendors and clinic partners.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Information and Referral
- Serve as primary contact for people with ALS and their families impacted by ALS
- Support individuals and their families by identifying needs, connecting to necessary resources, assisting with questions, and providing referrals as needed
- Manage a caseload of people with ALS through ongoing interactions (in-person, virtually, and by email/telephone communication)
- Facilitate virtual home visits to offer education and connection to resources
- Educate those impacted by ALS as well as community partners on fundamentals of the disease
- Coordinate implementation of all available Care Services programs and services
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of all interactions with those living with ALS and their care teams
Equipment Loan Program
- Educate, in conjunction with other professionals, on availability of loaner durable medical equipment (DME), adaptive/assistive tools, and communication devices
- Coordinate with durable medical equipment (DME) vendors to ensure requested items are delivered and returned according to program guidelines
- Collaborate with other members of the Care Services staff to evaluate and improve quality and inventory of program
- Work with staff and loan pool vendors to complete yearly on-site inventories
Outreach, Provider Relations, and Educational Training
- Actively build relationships with healthcare providers and other professionals who serve people with ALS in region
- Promote and provide educational trainings for various provider and community groups
Resource/Support Group
- Assist other Care Services staff in facilitating virtual statewide resource group as needed
- When deemed appropriate, facilitate in-person gatherings for individuals impacted by ALS
Other Responsibilities and Activities
- Participate in ongoing training related to ALS and professional skill development
- Provide input on Care Services strategic planning as requested
- Provide content for Association publications as requested
- Collaborate with Development staff to promote fundraising and other special events as appropriate
- Promote and participate in the Association's advocacy/public policy efforts
- Attend other Association meetings as needed
- Represent self on behalf of The ALS Association in a professional manner to all constituents and promote the vision, mission, purpose, and values of The Association
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- This job has no supervisory responsibilities
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) or Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) preferred
- Experience with and knowledge of durable medical equipment (DME) required with 2-5 years experience preferred
- High degree of resourcefulness with strong assessment and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships while maintaining professional boundaries
- Strong verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and in collaboration with other team members while effectively managing time between Association office and remote/home office setting
- Strong computer/technology skills; including Microsoft Office and database utilization
- Ability and willingness to travel in state; minimal out of state travel required (valid U.S. driver's license required)
- Must be able to visit loan pool locations in Des Moines, IA weekly and Hiawatha, IA monthly
- Availability and willingness to work extended hours for special projects and events when necessary
- Proof of COVID vaccination required
PAY TRANSPARENCY:
The ALS Association's pay range for this positionis $49,174 - $69,392 annually.
The ALS Association has compensation ranges for various work locations throughout the United States, allowing us to compensate employees competitively and consistently in diverse geographic markets. The above-listed listed range shows prospective compensation for this role; the appropriate range will be established by what is eventually determined to be the candidate's primary work location. Various factors, including the complexity and significance of the role, job duties/requirements, relevant experience and abilities, and primary work location, determine individual compensation. Compensation ranges are evaluated and typically adjusted on a regular basis. Offers are made within the compensation range that is in effect at the time of the job offer.
The Association may, at its discretion, offer merit-based increases tied to individual performance. The benefits listed may differ depending on employment status with the Association.
