Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems sector has an opening for a Mechanical Engineering Manager 2 (Section Manager) in Space Park (Redondo Beach), CA in support of the Weapons Integration and Subsystems IPT on the F-35 program. In this hands-on leadership role, you will lead a growing team of engineers and will be responsible for leading all managerial tasks relevant to Vehicle Engineering. Although an onsite presence is required, some hybrid flexibility may be available.
Approximately 15% of the role will be performing functional homeroom duties such as attending functional staff meetings, management of personnel (performance reviews, direction & coaching), and coordination of job assignments, staffing, and recruiting. These responsibilities include:
Lead a section of 10-15 engineers located in Redondo Beach, CA, Edwards AFB, and NAS Pax River in support of the Weapons Integration and Subsystems IPT
Perform functional management duties, including the following: Conduct employee performance assessments, career development discussions, staffing forecasts, and assimilate new members into the Weapons Integration and Subsystems IPT
Process oversight, participation in the performance review process, management of personnel records and participation in corrective or disciplinary actions
Staffing responsibilities may include hiring, recruiting of personnel, and working to ensure that engineers with the appropriate skills and experience are deployed
Manage development opportunities and budget allocations and ensure employee compliance with mandatory training requirements
In addition to functional Section Manager duties, the candidate will perform IPT engineering tasks, comprising approx. 85% of the statement of work. These responsibilities include:
Develop proposal artifacts in support of various contractual objectives
Prepare and manage schedule and budgets to include EVMS and prepare and present project status to program leadership
Develop, manage, and brief programmatic status and performance measures in support of recurring reviews with NG leadership and industry partners.
Collaborate closely with the production line and provide solutions to producibility issues
Participate in cross functional teams to improve program processes.
Identify risks and issues and coordinate with project teams to mitigate and retire risks
Conduct root cause and corrective action analysis and define/execute corrective action plans to address quality escapes
Travel to other Northrop Grumman and/or customer sites as required

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science (BS) in a related STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline and 9 years of related professional/military experience; OR Master of Science (MS) in a related STEM discipline with 7 years of related professional/military experience
Experience with aircraft structural design and/or Subsystems Design
Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret Security Clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
Current, in-scope DoD Secret clearance (or higher)
Leadership experience in a people leadership role or matrixed environment
Degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering
Experience with CAD tools, such as CATIA V5
Experience working on the F-35 program and/or other military programs
Experience developing and coaching for leadership and performance
Experience with Systems Engineering Processes
Previous experience dealing with Risks and Issues
Cost Account Manager (CAM) & Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) proficiency
