Position Description
For regular part-time positions: All LVMPD part time positions are limited to work 19 hours per week and 988 hours per year. Maintenance Worker - Part-Time is paid at $25.08 an hour. The current schedule is Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 4:00 pm.
Definition
Perform semi-skilled, handyman functions in the care and maintenance of Department facilities as well as general checks on work performed by Department contractors in areas such as janitorial and landscape services.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is a part-time position not subject to the competitive requirements of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Civil Service Rules.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives immediate supervision from higher-level staff.
Minimum Qualifications/Position-Specific Conditions
Training, Education and Experience
  • Six months of experience performing semi-skilled handyman work.
  • Possession of a High School Diploma or GED Certificate.
  • Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid Nevada driver's license.
  • Be a citizen/naturalized citizen or permanent resident alien without conditions on status of the United States of America by the date of the first test instrument
  • Be at least 18 years old by the date of the first test instrument

Conditions of Employment
In addition to the General Conditions of Employment, found , the following specific conditions of employment and physical conditions apply to this position.
  1. Personal Appearance: While on duty, and/or representing the Department, uniformed or otherwise, all Department employees will be neat and clean in their appearance in public. Employees are prohibited from attaching, affixing, or displaying objects, articles or jewelry on or through the nose, tongue, eyebrow or other exposed body part, except the ears for females, while on duty. Employees are prohibited from stretching or "gauging" their earlobes. All jewelry implants will not be exposed or visible while on duty. Tattoos or branding will not be exposed or visible while on duty and/or representing the Department. Such markings must be covered by clothing. Markings that cannot be covered by clothing will be covered using makeup, neutral-toned bandages, or patches. Tattoos or branding anywhere on the body that promote racism/discrimination, indecency, extremist or supremacist philosophies, lawlessness, violence, or contain sexually explicit material are prohibited.
  2. Participate in the LVMPD Mental Wellness Program.
  3. Perform maintenance work in and around office buildings, correctional facilities, and commercial facilities which house electrical equipment and wiring, HVAC equipment, and plumbing fixtures, including hot, cramped spaces such as electrical and mechanical equipment rooms; work in noisy and dusty environment; may be required to work outside in various kinds of weather.
  4. Vision sufficient to read labels, drawings and manuals, color vision sufficient to distinguish colored electrical wiring; hearing sufficient to hear conversations and directions in person and over the telephone and radio; dexterity sufficient to operate manual and powered tools; strength sufficient to lift and move furniture weighing up to 50 pounds; mobility to crawl under buildings and up ladders, kneel and crouch as necessary, and stretch to reach overhead; and, endurance sufficient to sit, crouch and stand for long periods of time.
