The Maintenance Worker works under the direction of the Street and Utility Division Crew Leader and performs tasks associated with street repair and maintenance, storm and sanitary sewer collection system repair and maintenance, and distribution system repairs and maintenance. Performs other duties as assigned by management.
This position is open until filled with review of resumes commencing immediately.
Job Duties
- Operates snow plowing and ice control equipment including heavy duty trucks equipped with snowplows and material spreaders, road graders and front loaders.
- Performs asphalt street repairs and operates leveling distributors, dump trucks and the various hand tools associated with asphalt repair.
- Operates sanitary and storm sewer hand-, mechanical-, and engine-operated cleaning equipment to clean and maintain storm and sanitary sewers.
- Operates excavating equipment to repair storm, sanitary sewer collection, and water distribution systems and performs tasks associated with maintenance of these systems.
- Operates small and large motorized mowing equipment and systems. Performs tasks associated with vegetation maintenance.
- Operates street sweeping vacuum equipment and performs tasks associated with street cleaning.
- Performs cleaning tasks such as vehicle cleaning and garage maintenance, and other janitorial type duties.
- Performs a large variety of tasks associated with set up and clean up for special City events.
- Performs stream and waterway maintenance tasks such as debris removal and minor bank stabilization work.
- Performs tasks associated with tree trimming, brush collection, trash collection and associated organized City-wide cleanup programs.
- Performs or assists more skilled personnel in the repair or maintenance of the water distribution system. These include the repair of water mains, water services, fire hydrants and valves.
- Operates GPS equipment for the purpose of utility mapping.
- Assists other City departments as deemed necessary by the Director of Public Works or their designee.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Possession of a Class "A" CDL Driver's License with air brakes and tanker endorsements.
- Ability to operate a variety of motorized equipment including large dump trucks, road graders, backhoes, loaders, street sweepers, high pressure sewer cleaners, mowers, chain saws, pumps, concrete saws, and asphalt rollers.
- Ability to communicate with the general public in a friendly and courteous manner.
- Considerable knowledge of the principals and techniques used in asphalt repair, snow plowing, storm and sanitary sewer maintenance, and concrete finishing and replacement.
- Demonstrated skill in one or more of the following work types: welding, carpentry, concrete finishing, operation of motorized equipment, vehicle or equipment maintenance, plumbing, construction labor, landscaping/gardening, engineering, electrical maintenance, or other skills directly related to the position.
- The ability to meet the physical requirements of the position.
- Knowledge of industrial safety including confined area entry and excavation safety.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Possession of a Class "A" CDL Driver's License with air brakes and tanker endorsements, or the ability to obtain within six (6) months.
- Pass all pre-employment tests and examinations.
