Job Description
Maintains a safe and healthy academic and professional environment for students, teachers and administrators. Responsible for maintaining classrooms, offices and outdoor areas to ensure a clean and healthy setting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Uses proper techniques with the cleaning inside/outside of buildings, which includes floors, carpet, walls, glass windows, ceilings, water gutter and patio/walk areas.
Uses proper techniques with grounds maintenance, which includes parking lots, fence lines, playground area and equipment.
Uses proper techniques in moving equipment, furniture and supplies weighing up to fifty (50) pounds and asks for assistance with items weighing over fifty (50) pounds.
Uses safe techniques in light maintenance tasks such as painting, changing of globes, installing dispensers, and adjusting lockers.
Uses safe and proper work/cleaning techniques including the usage of all inside power equipment needed to support program.
Maintains and properly uses personal protective equipment - Reports all accidents to the Head Custodian.
Maintains confidentiality of information.
Reports to work on time every day.
Performs additional duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Successful completion of a pre-employment background and drug screening
Knowledge of minor repair techniques and building and grounds maintenance
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
Ability to understand instructions and communicate in basic English
Ability to lift one hundred (100) pounds with assistance and fifty (50) pounds alone
Ability to properly handle cleaning supplies
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization
One (1) year of experience in labor, maintenance and/or custodian
Department Specific
Applicants for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain eligibility. Due to requirements related to system access, the following will result in being disqualified for this position: Felony Convictions, Felony Deferred Adjudication, Class A & B Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication, Class B Misdemeanor Convictions, an Open Arrest for Any Criminal Offense (Felony or Misdemeanor), and Family Violence Convictions.

Working conditions are inside and outside with routine repeated exposure to temperature variations, damp/wet surfaces, hazardous materials, and dirty environment.
Working Environment
Often work outdoors, but some workers may work indoors. Are often exposed to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable. Are sometimes exposed to very hot or very cold temperatures when working outdoors. Are sometimes exposed to contaminants, such as fumes from paints or sealers. Operating hand tools, machinery, manual dexterity, talking, hearing, repetitive motion.
Physical and Mental Requirements
Exerting up to 40 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Must be able to stand, walk, sit, handling, reach outward, reach above shoulder, crawl, squat/Kneel, bend, push and pull frequently. Maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing or crouching on work surface.
Ability to use upper and lower extremities to move or transport 25 to 50 pounds, including pressing against something to force it in a forward, downward or outward position or drag, haul 25 to 50 pounds
Ability to bend the body downward and forward by bending spine at waist, and bending legs at knees and moving extremities in any direction
Ability to withstand physical demands on the body, including being in a stationary and/or standing position most of the day
Ability to express and exchange ideas by means of the spoken word, including where detailed or important spoken instructions must be conveyed to other workers accurately, loudly or quickly
Ability to understand, remember and apply oral and/or written instructions or other information
