This position is responsible for general grounds maintenance and cleaning of parks, cemeteries, and facilities throughout the department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities. This position will assist the department with establishing and executing regular maintenance cycles that will ensure that the parks, facilities and green spaces are safe, clean, and accessible for public use.
- Performing routine cleaning tasks and maintenance of community centers, shelters, and restrooms.
- Mowing, weed eating, trash/debris removal, supporting special events and projects, and snow/ice removal.
- Maintaining athletic fields, leaf collection/removal, invasive plant removal and minor equipment repair.
- Cleaning buildings and other facilities as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
This position is considered to be an Essential Personnel, which means that the incumbent is required to work when the City is closed due to public emergencies, critical or hazardous conditions, or inclement weather.
Knowledge, Skills. and Abilities:
Manages equipment and vehicles; ensures vehicles receive needed maintenance ; operates machinery and necessary equipment. Maintains, cleans and repairs equipment, roads, structures, grounds, parks, playing fields, and other facilities ; ensures grounds are safe and meet required standards . Operating zero turn mowers, weedeaters, backpack blowers, drills, chain saws, winches and other power equipment as necessary in performance of tasks. Conducts supply inventory for area of responsibility ; Manages supplies.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- Requires a High School Diploma or GED.
- One year of experience.
- An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification.
- Requires a valid Virginia Driver's license.
- Two years of experience working in a park setting.
- CDL license.
