Maintenance Technician (Entry-Level)

The mission of Northwest Arkansas Children's Shelter is to provide a safe haven, high-quality care and hope for the future to children who have been abandoned, abused or neglected.

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION: 

The Northwest Arkansas Children's Shelter has provided hope to children in Arkansas since 1993. Composed of three pillars: The Shelter, Hope Academy and Foster for the Future, our programs utilize and develop cutting-edge practices, grounded in over 30 years of trauma-centered research, to holistically meet the needs of children who have experienced abuse, abandonment or neglect. We are dedicated to continuing to develop high-quality programs and fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration that will guide best practices for decades to come.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage the upkeep of equipment, vehicles and supplies to meet health and safety standards
• Inspect building structures to determine the need for immediate/future repairs or renovations
• Supervise facilities volunteers, external contractors and identify opportunities for volunteers to utilize their skills to help carry out the duties of the position
• Control activities like parking space allocation, waste disposal, building security etc.
• Respond promptly to safety concerns, while maintaining applicable safety standards
• Maintain a routine maintenance checklist and document completion of tasks
• As needed, lawn and landscaping tasks and  inclement weather preparedness
• As needed, repaint and repair NWACS building interior and exterior walls and outbuildings.
• Assemble and/or repair such items as child riding toys, bikes, playing equipment, etc.
• Assist with the transportation of donations as needed
• Attend and participate in mandatory trainings, staff meetings, and all other events, as required.
• Complete all required documentation in a timely manner per agency procedures.

Experience:

For this position, specific technical skills may vary. However, a willingness to learn, strong problem-solving abilities, basic technical knowledge, and a proactive attitude are essential qualities we are looking for.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes

• Twenty-one years of age or older.
• Must pass all criminal history and child maltreatment background checks.
• Must submit to pre-employment drug screen as well as random drug screens when directed.
• Valid driver's license, proof of personal automobile insurance, and acceptable driving record required to drive shelter vehicle and/or for shelter business
• Maintains confidentiality and privacy regarding all residents' information in accordance to shelter policy and all applicable federal and state laws/regulations.
• Maintains a clean and organized work space
• Carries out work tasks in a way that conforms to and supports the mission, vision, and values of the shelter as well as professional and ethical standards
• Establish effective professional relationships with peers, support staff, volunteers, supervisors, and other professionals. 
• Basic proficiency in use of computers and software
• Effective oral and written communication skills
• Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills
• Flexibility, reliability, and self-motivation

• Must be able to climb, operate power equipment, stoop, bend, work in cramped places
• Ability to lift at least 50 pounds
• Work performed indoors and outdoors, and in inclement and seasonal weather
• Tasks may involve walking, standing, climbing, bending, kneeling, crouching, and lifting for long periods
