JobAs a Maintenance Specialistyour primary responsibility will be to act as a leader in the Department to help the Engineering and Operations staff overcome chemical process fabrication and construction challenges. In addition, a well-qualified candidate will be able to lead junior maintenance technician in routine plant repair activities and preventative maintenance activities.
Lubrizol’s Wickliffe Pilot Plant supports new chemical process development. A Maintenance Specialist will be required to consult on optimal ways to construct new processing equipment and piping, as well as be well accustomed to working with and repairing new stationary and rotating equipment. The Candidate must be comfortable working in both a chemical production and laboratory environment. It is expected that the Specialist be able to support fabrication techniques which includes but may not be limited to the construction of welded and threaded pipe, assembly of structural supports for equipment, installation of small-bore compression tubing and associated fittings, installation and repair of various types of pumps, compressors and other rotating equipment, installation of safety-critical devices (e.g. PSVs) and other mechanical repairs.
Finally, it is expected that the Specialist will draw on their experience to support process design reviews, process hazard reviews, and pre-startup safety reviews. The Candidate must also be familiar with and adhere to all OHSA PSM safe work related requirements, including Lock-Out-Tag-Out, hot work, confined space entry, and fall prevention/working-at-heights.
Responsibilities:
- Lead mechanical scope of special projects including fabrication installation, and maintenance consideration
- Provide technical expertise on all mechanical equipment within Process Development
- Ensure the operating area follows all process piping and mechanical integrity standards
- Design and fabricate specialty fixtures in the operating areas
- Pump installation, alignment, repair, and rebuild
- Plan and schedule predictive maintenance work, identify deficiencies, determine corrections, organize and store findings, and write summary reports. Follow-up that any needed repairs are complete and resolve any identified failures
- Pipe fitting, welding, and brazing
- Estimating job labor and material costs
- Tracking job scope changes
- Draft or edit standard operating procedures for existing and new equipment
- Ensure all training documentation is accurate and relevant
- Complete scheduled preventative maintenance or work orders as assigned
- Fill in for supervisor on an as-needed basis
- All other duties as assigned
Skills, Experience, and Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent from an accredited school
- 10+ years’ maintenance experience as a mechanic
- Knowledge of the following:
- Welding and brazing, metal fabrication, equipment troubleshooting, rigging, forklift operation, compression tubing fitting, rotating/stationary equipment repair, millwrighting, pipefitting and layout, plumbing, insulating, reading prints and diagrams, Energy Source and Hazards Awareness/Recognition
- Must have a detailed understanding of the function and workings of utility and process equipment and systems, repairs, maintenance, and construction.
- Previous chemical, refinery, natural gas, pulp/paper, food and beverage, pharmaceutical, cement/kilning, materials extraction, or other process industry related experience and knowledge of chemical hazards.
- Knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft computer software
- Ability to read prints, and take accurate measurements with both English and Metric units
- Proficient math and writing skills.
- Considered a plus
- Associates or trade school degree in mechanics, design, technology or engineering
- Additional welding or inspection certifications
- Experience in SAP purchasing module (requisitioning), and SAP Business Warehouse (sorting for reports)
